You cant take the 15 all the way back from The Dam because the 15 doesnt go to the dam.

Where exactly in North Las Vegas are you trying to get to? And at what time of day? Depending on when and where could change the answer to the best route from the dam.

will be leaving Hoover Dam around 2:00 and would like to see some of Lake Mead before heading for St. George Utah. that's why we were thinking of taking rt.147 to bypass Las Vegas highway traffic.

If you want the fastest way from the dam to St George at 2pm just take the freeway back the 93/95 and hit the 15 north right at downtown. Traffic won't be an issue.

The other way the 147 takes you around the Lake so it's scenic but will add time to your travels.

Rt 147 will add alot of time for you. I would take 93 to either the 215 or stay on the 515 to get to I-15. The 515 would probably be faster, but if you take the 215 you will get to see the strip a little closer.
