Just booked my trip! (But on a budget this time...)

We typically head to Vegas twice a year, but let's just say 2011 has not been a good year. In any case, with comp lodging (at IP... ugh) and $240 airfare from Charlotte to Vegas (a great find!), I couldn't resist. All I'm left wondering now, is how bad are the rooms at IP? I have read some reviews commenting on smells and being next to back alleys. Any tips on how to avoid ending up in one of those rooms?

(About myself- I have been happy in the past staying at MGM, Bally's, Flamingo, Rio, and Harrah's.... so, I am not high maintenance but do prefer to stay on the strip. On my Vegas trips, I do gamble quite a bit, primarily BJ and Craps.)

Ask for a room away from Carnival Court. At least a Deluxe. Ask for a room close to the elevator.

I'm not sure about which TOWER is the best though.

I just came back from staying at the IP last week and was in Tower 1 which was easy to get to but the elevators are slowwwwwww and they were always very FULL.

I've heard that there is an elevator by the KENO area that is much faster for the higher floors.

I only stayed at the IP once on a comp, and they ended up giving us an upgrade to the penthouse suite (we were only staying one night). If you don't get as lucky, I would ask for a room on one of the lower floors, so that you can walk the steps and the elevator won't be an issue. I found the room to be very clean and the casino was fine. Don't worry about it and enjoy your trip on a budget.

Do you have any of the Coupon books Mizz? ACG and LVA are great for someone trying to budget. If I could get a second trip in to LV, I would take a room at the IP anyday!! We can only make it once a year right now- would love to go twice. When are you going?

Stay at the IP often. Good advice so far.. ask for a lower floor so you can walk if you wish, away from the carnival also good. On our last trip we were comp a deluxe room, about 2 wks before our trip we got an offer to upgrade to a luv tub for $15 a night. We took it. Was worth the money, the room was still worn but much bigger, flat screen, and a coffee maker! You will have a fine time. The IP isn't fancy but always clean and friendly.

Thank you for the replies and great tips. I am a bit more reassured now. I will be there the second week in August, so I was a bit concerned about getting a smelly room and the weather being too hot to open the windows. I think i'll bring a glade plug-in, just in case.

Stayed in a Deluxe room a few years ago.

Worn...yes, but clean, comfortable, no funny smells, no back alleys and the casino was fun. :) I don't remember the elevators being an issue for me.

Have a great time! :)

The deluxe rooms are usually fine, on the rare iccasion you may get stunk with a stinker, but then just ask to change rooms. Don't let them put you in the Capri rooms which is basically an attached motel wing. There are another row of elevators right behind the main ones that are less busy because people just flock to the elevators where they see people waiting.

The hotel has a great location an excellent cocktail waitresses.

And please excuse the numerous spelling and grammatical errors I make as I suck at typing on my phone.

I stayed at Imperial Palace in December 2010, and it wasn't bad at all. I was expecting the worst after reading all the negative reviews, but it's actually decent. No frills, nothing special, but clean and comfortable - a good place to lay your head after all the craziness of Vegas! The elevators were a little slow, and the rooms were dated, but nothing to cry about. Enjoy the central location, and have a great trip!

Ip isnt as bad as most people say just stayed at the first of april and it was ok.Ak for at least a deluxe suite no capri rooms then you will have to deal with back alley walks. Also request a room on the second floor where you can just walk out your sliding door to the pool but it is loud when they start the music but worth it.
