How much are you obligated to gamble when room is a comped?

If this is too personal a question for you, please feel free not to answer. If I was to get 3 free nights (say $100 a night), and $300 in free play, I tend to feel obligated to spend the majority of my time and my bankroll at the hotel giving me the comps.

This time, my boyfriend will most likely be there for part of the trip at a different hotel (long story) so I won't be spending as much time at my base hotel. So I am trying to make sure I spend enough at the hotel to justify those comps.

Am I just a freak to worry about this, or do other people take this into consideration when receiving comped rooms.

You are not obligated at all but you wont get free rooms from them again until you do ,it happened to us at a mgm property and we were there for a week and gambled maybe 500 and our total bill with room service was 7500 ,we didnt even take our free limo ride back to the airport because we felt so bad .

We found the casino very warm and it was under constuction so we could not stand it and didnt gamble there but we got free offers from the casinos we did gamble at and when we got home i called our host and explained why and he was very good about it.

Be sure to read the "fine print" - several folks here have reported that they have received offers that specifically mention they must maintain their historic level of play.

We are receiving 4 nights free at Aria.

Not sure about free play yet

We gamble roughly $400 a day

Hope that helps a little

Cheers Deb

Your offer's fine print should tell you, like PhillyWill said....

Some of the new MLife comps say based on your current gambling level...

I was wondering this same thing.

We just returned from a comped room at THE hotel.

Last year we stayed at the MGM (we paid for the room) and when we checked out I was surprised by how much food they comped (I totally did not expect it, it was my first time using a players card). Now yesterday when I checked with the host we had nothing comped and I gambled WAY more this trip than last year (in my mind I justified it becuase of the free room :) ) so is that because of the free room??? Would I have probably had comped food if the room wasn't free??? I am not sure how any of this works... ???

I was told by a hostess once that you should play at least 4 hours per day? That was a long time ago but I try to do this each time and I still get offers mostly from MGM thats where I like to stay the most,by the way I do not have a hostess there either, haven't had one in 4 or 5 years.

Well, gambling at my historical level would be impossible as last time I was there I had a horseshoe up my ???? (as my boyfriend likes to say), I was lucky enough to win enough to do some rather extreme gambling (pretty much every waking minute). My plan is to make sure I gamble at least $1,500 at my base casino, and probably another $1,500 at other casinos - mostly MLife properties. I would think $1,500 for receiving roughly $600 in comps should be enough.

There are a lot of more veteran posters out there who will give the sage advice of don't chase comps. Your gambling on the last trip "earned" you the comps for this one.

Where and how often you decide to play this trip will have a strong affect on your next set of offers. However given your situation I would play as often as you want, where you want and don't make comps a factor.

Losing a few hundred more than you would normally is a difficult proposition, free room or not. But if you were going to gamble it anyways, may as well get some benefit for it.

"Obligations" to a hotel defeat the purpose of a vacation. Just have a good time.

Worrywort, yes. Freak? Can't determine without further evidence.
