tropicana or excalibur

Please can someone advise which is best between trop and widescreen excalibur? Who's pool is better? Are all rooms updated at trop? Do trop have in room safes? Thanks

It's been a while since I've stayed at Trop, but have read that the upgraded rooms are nice. Stayed at Excalibur in 2005 and was not impressed.

Been some time since we stayed at Excalibur & it was nothing exciting.

Trop is getting solid reviews for the new renovation; pool quite nice.

For those who have not been to Excalibur in a while, the Widescreen rooms are actually very nice. They were renovated in 2007. This is where we always choose to stay but I actually wanted to try Tropicana this year due to the complete overhaul. I ended up booking at Excalibur due to the 2 free show tickets offered with MGM properties and that is worth over $200 alone. I basically got the hotel for free. Excalibur's pool area is actually very nice, was also renovated in either 2006 or 2007. There are 4 pools and a couple of hot tubs. Tons of loungers surround the area and it is very sunny. There is also a poolside restaurant and affordable drinks from the bar.

Tropicana is supposed to have a great pool area and they completely renovated the whole thing including all rooms, the casino and the pool. They also added Nikki Beach which charges admission because it is like a club. The rooms at Trop look very nice and they are as new as it gets, I also like the beachy modern feel. There isn't much in the way of food or coffee from what I have heard though.

I would probably choose Tropicana just to try it out while it is still new. They are basically in the same location and the same distance to everything except that Excalibur is connected indoors to Luxor and Mandalay Bay. But they are right across the street from each other.

Tropicana does have room safes; I honestly can't recall for certain if our windows opened in the room, but I think they did. I stayed at Palms and Tropicana in December and one of those rooms had windows that opened.

the two casinos are very different from each other ie Ex has a huge and dark Casino whereas the Trop's is moderate in size and very bright and cheerful...depends on what your preference is.I never stayed at the Exc but stayed at the Patadise Tower in May of 2010[just after the renovation] and loved everything about it and they do have room safes.

In case yoy haven't heard you should contact Nicole Marshall at 702-739-3640 for the best deal which could include waiving the resort fee.

Yes, there is an appropriate number of chairs for the size of the pool. Not sure about cabanas. Be warned, they do play music all day whether Nikki Beach is open or not. Fairly loud club-beat type music so if that bothers you, you might want to go elsewhere. I am mid 40's and found it tolerable. Not my preference of music, but if you bring reading material or whatever, you can focus on other things and it all works out.
