Best Hotel in the Fremont area?

So, usually we stay on the Strip. We havent been to Vegas in a few years and we're thinking of staying in the Fremont area this time. What would be the best hotel there?

Thanks for any help!

Cheers!

By far the nicest hotel DT is Golden Nugget but I personally love the Fitz. No frills but super convenient and super cheap and it's a decent hotel. If you are looking for a "stryp type" hotel then you are only going to be happy with the Nugget.

The Golden Nugget is definitely the place to stay downtown. I'm staying there on my next trip coming up in Sept. We have stayed downtown 3 out of our last 4 trips and really like it. We still head to the strip for a day, but I love having the ability to get up and go to a different casino and get there in 2 mins instead of 20 mins.

Yes the GN is the nicest but it's not everyone's taste. I like the smaller more laid back places where the same drinks are cheaper and also the food and table limits. My favorites ate Main Street Station, The El Cortez and their sister non gaming hotel,The Cabana Suites and the Fremont.

I agree with VV - I am not a big fan of the GN either. But, it is indeed the most "strip-like" hotel downtown. (although, if you want the strip, why not just stay on the strip - kwim). We generally stay at Fitz, since that is where we play mostly. On our next trip we are staying a few nights at Fremont, and I hear that the Cabana Suites at the El Co are super nice as well...

Right now the GN is the best hotel in downtown. However Plaza is planning on a complete makeover that will debut in September. They will be the only 5 star property in downtown.

Just check out this video

Plaza a five star? I'm laughing at that one.

I'm wondering who says it will be a five star?

Yea I don't see the Plaza being a 5 star either! It's making a HUGE improvement, but I don't see it being 5 star.

The Gn is a solid 4 star and has an awesome pool.

Plaza bought up all the materials, fixtures and furniture that was suppose to be part of the 5 Star Fountainblue project. They are simply moving it to the Plaza...hence it's will be a 5 Star Property. Just you wait.

I'm anxious to see what entertainment and restaurants the Plaza has decided to add.
