Has anyone gone to Primm for a day trip?

We were thinking about driving to Primm for the day on our upcoming trip to Vegas. Has anyone ever done this and what was your experience? How long does it take? How is the scenery? Were the slots good to you? How was the shopping outlet, etc. Would you do it again or was it not worth the time? I would appreciate your thoughts.

If YOU want to go, go. It's 45 minutes through the desert, so you can spend an hour or several. Try the giant Desperado roller coaster and have lunch. Shop. Gamble. Live.

If you want a change of scenery, why not?

I used to go a lot ( but not in the last few years) since a friend always wanted to buy California lottery tickets, but we would buy the tickets, play a few VP machines, maybe eat lunch and then leave. I was never impressed with any of the casinos or the outlet center, but it was something different to do (plus- I kept him company).

Laughlin is another option. You have the Colorado River right outside the Casinos.

Desperado is a great roller coaster, IMO. Ditto what vp03 wrote.

Thank you for your replies. Anyone else?

We have been renting a car the last several years and really enjoy going to different places that we haven't seen before. Some of them we have really enjoyed, some we didn't. We have really enjoyed Boulder Highway, Red Rock, M Resort, Southpointe, etc. Green Valley Ranch, Sunset Station, Alanti Station, not so much. I looked in to Laughlin but it is a 90 min. drive.. I was looking for someplace a little closer. Any other suggestions would be great.

Besides Primm, that's it in terms of closer casino places to Vegas. Why not give it a shot? I've stayed in those 3 casinos many times when I was on trips with family as a kid, and when I first set foot to Vegas as a 21+ guy...as long as you know what to expect, it should be fun to do :)

I think your making a huge mistake by Not going to Laughlin over Primm, the ride is decent and you can stop half way for coffee, breakfast or lunch and enjoy the small town of Searchlight.

Located 57 miles south of Las Vegas on US 95.

This mining town began around 1879 and in 1907 was the most important community in southern Nevada. However, by 1910 depletion of high grade ore soon reduced the population of Searchlight greatly, and those remaining made a living from ranching or catering to the highway traffic.

Laughlin has ten times the thing to do and see then Primm.

There are only a few outlets in primm that aren't in Vegas. Williams sonoma is the only one I can really think of worth checking out.

Thank you all.

DiceMan, Searchlight looks interesting and I have never heard about it before.

I have learned a lot of great info from this forum.

If you wanted to, you could see Laughlin and Primm on the same trip. Coming back from Laughlin, turn west on Hwy 164 at Searchlight. This scenic route leads you thru forests of Joshua Trees, past the WeeThump Joshua Tree wilderness, thru the railroad town of Nipton and ends up at Interstate 15.Just a short run downhill, you will arrive at Primm.Watch your speed in Searchlight!!
