Teenagers

OK - I've clearly made a misjudgement. I thought flying into and out of LV would be an exciting way to begin and end our holiday. I did think the LV OTT spectacle wd be eye-popping for my 14 and 18 year olds who are quite mature for their age and who aren't into Disney or theme parks - but the more I read the more I realise that LV has changed its target market from 1990s. Too late to change now but I'm worried we'll feel the disapproval of others. We're staying at the Luxor - is walking the strip and visiting other hotels OK?

I wouldn't have too many regrets. I'm sure your kids will still enjoy Vegas despite what others may say, though your 18 year old who can drink and gamble legally at home may find it a little frustrating!

You can (depending on when your trip is) hang at the pool, go to see shows, check out the amazing shopping (great for girls, perhaps less so for boys) and, as you suggest, check out all the hotels which are attractions in their own right. The only places your kids can't be left without you are casino areas.

You don't say how long you're actually in Vegas but it sounds like you're planning to visit other places anyway so most likely just a few days. Don't worry about it, you guys will have a blast!

Don't sweat it! There is plenty to do for the kids. They'll have a blast and enjoy the pools and the entertainment available for them.

I took my 7 & 12 year olds last year and there were plenty of kids there. I never felt the disapproval of others.

You'll find plenty to do with kids, mine loved it!!

Have a great trip :)

We fly into LV 24th July - and get to hotel about 9pm - have one full day before we start our week tour of several National Parks. We'll be doing a lot of nature stuff for seven days which we'll all enjoy but thought the boys would appreciate the contrast of LV after all those rocks and desert. They are 21st century teenagers after all! Thanks - feeling reassured

You will be fine. In fact, you will be more than fine- chances are your chidlren are going to love Vegas and so will you. Just walking on the strip and popping in and out of the various casinos to see the attractions will take a big chunk of your time. Some people on this forum may disapprove of children in Vegas, but that has nothing to do with the people you will meet in Vegas. Nobody will bother you simply because you have teens with you.

You are correct- it is going to be a big (pleasant) change from all the desert landscape!

Sounds like a great trip!

The only disapproval you might have is staying at the Luxor, not one of the best locations, away from most of all the strip action.

With teens a mid strip Hotel would have been 10 times better.

My daughter is 15 and she loves Vegas. We are going for the july 4th week.

It sounds like it is there first time to Vegas so it will be exciting and so much to see. Have fun and enjoy your trip.

I don't think very many people disapprove of taking kids that are teenagers. The real disapproval comes form those who take young kids and babies - not fair to little ones when parents don't use common sense and push these chldren beyond their limits and in the summer, the heat isn't good for babies.

You'll have a blast and your kids might like the Luxor - we did. The location is a negative factor since you have so little time. Relax and be excited about your trip - you'll be back!

The problem comes when mom and dad bring the kids to Vegas and then expect to have an "adult" holiday. As long as you realize its a family holiday, you'll be fine. I took my daughter and a friend when they were 15 and 16 and they had a great time.

My teen daughter loves Vegas. The card slappers left us alone; however we were offered free cover charge to a club.... my daughter doesn't come close to looking 21; we chose to be amused by it all.
