Route from Las Vegas to GCNP

Looking at my Atlas in detail I see......

After passing through Searchlight on Hwy 95, there is a road off to the left (163) which goes to Laughin, Davis Dam then 68 to Kingman.

This looks a lot shorter than going all the way down to the 95, then thru Needles, topock, and Yucca to Kingman.

Is that route OK?

The road is fine, a bit twisty as you drop down into Laughlin but no problem at all,

There are some real weird looking settlements between Laughlin and Kingman (well weird looking to me, im a Brit. Desert dwellers i guess?) which makes for an interesting drive.

Certainly looks a shorter distance on a map.

Thanks JNC

Unless anyone else says don't go, that's the way we'll go (Brit too)

I thought the other way though longer, might be faster.

I'm assuming you can cross the water by the Davis Dam!

Hi,

If you get a chance, have a stop in Williams. Its just off the I40 before you take the 64 up to the GCNP. It's a great little town.

Enjoy!

Yeah you can, there is a bridge just down stream from the dam close to Laughlin. I dunno if your interested but there is an outlet mall just down from the crossing actuallly in Laughlin, its a lot cheaper than the Vegas ones.

Have a great trip.

The route most take to the Grand Canyon is hwy 93 over the new bypass bridge to interstate 40 to hwy 64 into the park. With the completion of the bridge, you can get to the GC in 4.5 -5 hours.

You can certainly get there going thru Laughlin, just not as direct.

Watch your speed in Searchlight. Just a warning.

Google maps says the Laughlin route will add about an hour to the drive compared to hwy 93.

Just read your post in the Joshua Tree forum. If you want to see Joshua Trees on your route, you have a couple options. At Searchlight turn right towards Nipton.Go about 8 miles. The Wee Thump Joshua Tree wilderness is out there.

Another option off hwy 93 is to turn on Pierce Ferry Road. There are groves out there. The best is at the intersection of Diamond Bar Road. Then return to 93 and on to the canyon.

As dez40 said, Rte 93 is by far the quickest and most direct option out of LV to GCNP.

Only take Rte 95 if you feel you need to check out Laughlin or anyplace else it passes.
