Casino Etiquette

We are not complete casino virgins, having played slots on cruises and Niagara.

But with Vegas being the Mother Hen here we are both keen not to look like complete idjits!

We only want to play the basic slots. Please excuse my ignorance!

I see mention of players cards and signing up for such?

Have also read about the CW and free drinks...with a good tip of course!

So apart from the obvious answers of go in, sit down and get playing, a little guidance would be much appreciated, as l would hate to be treading on the toes of the experienced amongst you and looking like a complete fool!

Many Thanks

Since this is your first Vegas trip, I'll give you the newbie guide:

1 - You must hop into the casino backwards and yell "Vegas Virgin!". Continue this until you receive applause or when security escorts you out.

2 - You must buy a margarita guitar/blender and finish it in one hour.

3 - At 6pm head over to Caesars Palace for the ceremonial "Virgins in the fountains" swim. Don't be shy if you're the only ones there, just jump in!

4 - On your first full day you must visit every casino on the strip and have at least 1 drink.

;)

Well, if you don't care for cigarette smoke, don't go sit next to a smoker and then complain about thesmoke. On the other hand, if you smoke, do go sit next to a person that seems to be a non smoker.

Licking the machines is both unsanitary and gross.

If you win a small bit of change, celebrate quietly.

That was funny Motor. I had to do my swim in the Bellagio Fountains. Have to say those water jets HURT.

When you are in the casino look for the sign for the player's club, or ask on of the casino employees and they will get you there. I usually tip a couple of bucks a round for the drinks.

One thing to watch for are the people who have several machines blocked off. They can get very upset if you set at one of their machines, even if they do not have any $$$ in it.

>Tip your cocktail person well and they'll return sooner than later.

For our UK friends, this translates to $1 for each drink s/he brings you in most joints and up to $5 in the fancier places, especially if you're ordering fru-fru drinks like Wynn's justly famous (though conceptually disgusting) Chocolate Martini.

When you go in, look for the players card desk or ask at check in where you can get a players card. You have to keep the card in the machine the whole time you are using the machine and they are easy to forget to take out when you are done. When you sign up for the card, be sure to ask about all of the benefits and how the points system works so you can be sure you don't miss out on anything. MGM cards work in all MGM casinos. Same goes for CET so you don't have to get a new card at every casino. I usually tip 2 dollars every time I get a drink or more if I am doing well. The better you tip, the more your server will pay special attention to you. I have found that they truly do appriciate good tippers and will give you more personal service for that $5 tip. Have fun!

To simplify the answers above:

1. At each casino, find the Rewards desk and sign up for the free players card. (Several casinos are owned by the same companies)

2. Insert this card into every slot machine you play. It will count up your credits and track your play

3. DON'T FORGET to remove the card when you leave.

4. You will get offers and promotions in the mail to return

5. If you are a big money slot player, you may get comps on this stay

Never be afraid to ask the casino personnel questions. They are there to help you and make sure you have a great time.

Get your players card first thing. Some of them come with Free Play. After that just sit down and play. I have some good tips for winning too. #1 Pull your card in and out of the slot if the machine isn't hitting. #2 Rub the screen in a clockwise motion, but only use your right hand. #3 Carry a few good luck charms in your pocket and set them on top of your machine. #4 Jump up and down and holler and act really excited if you get a hit for $5.00 or more. Other players love to see people winning. #5 If you get a really good hit like a hundred dollars or more, always tap the player's shoulder next to you and say, "Look what I just got!!" #6 If the person next to you is smoking when you sit down next to him, wave your hands around and cough, he will understand what to do. Hope these hints help. Have fun and enjoy your trip.
