Fremont Street

Going to Vegas in Oct., is it safe for two women to go to Fremont Stree at night. We're going at night because I've read it's the best time. We wont walk, we'll take a taxi.

You will be perfectly safe anywhere under the canopy. You will also be safe on Main street up to MSS and Fremont street to the El Cortez.

I would venture to say that Fremont street is much safer than the strip. You will see many more uniformed police officers patrolling Fremont street (on foot, horseback, segways, and golf carts) than you will on the strip. I doubt you can walk the 4 blocks of the canopy without seeing at least 5-6 police officers.

You are also correct that night time is the best time to go to Fremont street. After dark, the area "comes alive" with people everywhere. I suggest you head downtown earlier and grab dinner at one of the many good (and inexpensive - compared to the strip) restaurants. Spend an hour or two after dinner exploring the different downtown casinos. After dark, enjoy being outside on Fremont street (don't forget to get a deep fried twinkie at Mermaids).

Thanks for the info. I read a few thing on a different site that gave me some concern, one said not to go if u were not with a large man. I would have missed out on what I'm sure will be a nice experience. I've been to Vegas before but not to Fremont Street. Thanks again. I love this site.

My understanding is that in the past, Fremont street had issues. It has been really cleaned up in the last 6-8 years. Fremont Street is actually in the City of Las Vegas (the strip is not). Being in the city, there are different laws that have been passed that have kept the porn slappers and the like away. Also, the Fremont Street Experience is run by all the casino's. Besides the city police force, the FSE pays for additional security to keep the area safe. We took our two early teen boys to Vegas in 2009. We felt confident letting them explore Fremont street by themselves. We would not let them out of sight on the strip.

Don't just limit youself to the canopy. There some interesting lounges and eateries east and north like thr Triple George Grill, Hogs n Heiffers and th El Cortez as well as the Gold Spike.

You will see way more families with kids on fremonet stret then anywhere else.

Yes its perfectly safe.

There are obvious homeless walking around and chances are you will see some. KNowing this it keeps the regular person on their toes a bit more. On the strip, there is so much to see the criminals can easily blend in and rob when without you even being on guard. The strip gives people a false sense of security.

It is perfectly safe. My SO goes by herself when she feels like going and I don't. Not only doesn't she have a large man with her (me), she doesn't have anyone with her and she has always been fine. Neither one of us gives it a second thought. Have fun!

I would equate the atmosphere dt to a festival downtown in any city. Although you may are some who appear to be homeless, they will not approach you asking for money or have out a sign. We always spend part of our trip dt, and dh and I often split up, and I've never felt uncomfortable.

I do make sure to be aware of my wallet at all times as I do on the strip or anywhere with large crowds.

In all our trips dt, we've only had a hassle once. At the gn, a guy sat next to us, asked me for a cigarette, and then kind of just kept talking to us without making much sense. We relocated, he followed us. We relocated again, and I told security who were already aware and looking for the guy. We did not see him again.
