what is the best place to stay at to celebrate a 40th bday?

Where is the best hotel to stay at, moderately priced, to celebrate my 40th birthday? Travelling with several other couples and none of us have been to Vegas....what is the best things to do/see in 4 days to give us the most bang for our buck?

Please describe "moderately priced" as it does not mean the same to everyone. It would also help if you mentioned the dates, and especially if they include Friday or Saturday nights.

When you say "moderately priced" what do you mean?

I'd start by looking at the nicer newer properties and work down until you find one that satisfies your desires and your budget. I'm thinking Cosmo, Venetian/Palazzo, Caesars, Aria or Bellagio at the top end. If those are too much, then look at Mirage, TI, Paris, Planet Hollywood, and down from that point.

If you're willing to go farther south of the central strip area, Mandalay Bay and MGM are your starter options, then down to Tropicana, Luxor, Excalibur. (I'm partial to Mandalay Bay right now, and it would suit your age group I would think...)

Moderately priced is relative and prices vary drastically day to day and week to week for the same room. Most places you can get for under $200 on weeknights unless you bump up against a big event in town. Weekends can be double.

I would check out a show on your trip. I like the Cirque du Soleil shows myself--Love, Ka, O being my top 3 and L'Reve at Wynn which is "cirque-like. Also the vaudeville style Absinthe is getting some good buzz although I haven't seen it yet. There are cheaper shows.

Head up to Mix at the Hotel at Mandalay or Voodoo lounge at (offstrip) Rio for a sunset cocktail one night.

Walk the strip a few nights to see the volcano, fountains and the lights and action.

Try your hand a little at some casino gambling just for fun.

Plan one nice dinner at one of the celebrated chefs' places. Look for coupons at travelzoo and restaurant.com for some bargains at some good places.

If you're the dancin' clubbin' type, try out one of the clubs or lounges to see the beautiful people and wannabes.

If you have a spare evening and you want to try something new, check out Fremont Street experience at night in the downtown area. I wouldn't stay downtown though as a first timer. Stick with the strip if possible.

I would do Aria or the Bellagio, although the Bellagio could easily cost you $200 per night during the weekdays and much more on the weekends.

Aria is nice for the 40 and up crowd, but I think you might like the Bellagio better. If you can get a decent price at either property, you can't go wrong.

Other places that I would consider are: Wynn, Palazzo and the Venetian. Again, not sure of your budget.
