Plaza - Downtown Dinner & Breakfest

my husband and I will be staying at the Plaza weekend of Aug 27.. will be our first stay downtown.

Looking for suggestions for a mid priced Dinner and a cheap Breakfest....? (or places to stay away from!)

Magnolias at the Four Queens serves a good meal for a cheap price. For breakfast, I would take advantage of those two for one coupons for the Main

Street Station. You can both eat for aboy $7-8. Both are downtown.

Tinoco's Kitchen in the Vegas Club has a very nice breakfast special, $4.99, eggs, toast and hash browns. It's a nice restaurant in a not so beautiful hotel/casino but don't pay any attention to that.

For a nice medium priced dinner, try the Pasta Pirate in the California or the Redwood Grille in the California. These are not diners nor high end restaurants and both have specials, one a porterhouse special and the other a steak and lobster special.

Personally, I would stay away from Du Par's in the Golden Gate, high prices for low quality IMO.

Don't forget, the Plaza is opening quite a few new eateries but they may not all be open by the end of the month.

For the weekend, I would totally recommend the Champagne Brunch at the Fremont. You can get a 2 for 1 coupon from the Fremont Street Experience website. I think this is the better quality buffet (compared to MSS).

For Dinner - I guess it depends on your definition of mid priced, but Triple George Grill has a gift certificate available on restaurant.com that makes their prices reasonable, and perhaps the Flame at the El Cortez might fit your budget as well (also with a gift certificate from Restaurant.com).

I personally wasn't impressed at all with Pasta Pirate (although they also have a coupon available on the Fremont coupon sheet) but I do second that DuPar's seems way overpriced.

And Magnolia is great for any meal, basic coffee shop type food, but I have never been disappointed in the food.

I love Tinocos for breakfast, my fav used to be Magnolias, but WOW Tinocos has it beat! :) I really enjoyed the ham steak, but the bacon was really good too.

Magnolias has never given me a bad meal, I just liked the flavor of Tinocos better. I too like the Flame, I also like Magnolias for supper too, depends on what you are in the mood for honestly. I try to stay away from the chains like Supars, Denny and Hash House. DH and I like to go to happy hour at the Chart House not only for cocktails for for the HH food menu, we usually count that as supper since we leave felling full. Another one I want to try is the Grotto in the GN, it always smells heavenly when we walk by (unfair advertising if ya ask me! ;) ).

Despite Main Street Station being my favourite place to stay, I will agree that the buffet at the Fremont is better.

I've had consistently good meals at Magnolia's and Pasta Pirate.

Haven't tried Triple George yet, though it's on my list! Flame can be very affordable if you grab a coupon off restaurant.com.

If you want cheap but GOOD the prime rib special at the Market Street Cafe in the California is great!

Mid priced dinner, my fav downtown in 777 brewpub in main street station. Good selections and very reasonable prices...great microbrews as well.

Agree with the last post. Also consider the G.N. or M.S.S. buffets.

Another downtown food place thread where noone mentions it--Redwood Grill at the California. Porterhouse special has to be 1 of the best value meals ive ever experienced. Even without having the special its a nice place to eat, great friendly service, nice ambiance-all good .

Dupar's at the Golden Gate:

http://www.du-pars.com/

I agree with Redwood Grill's Porterhouse special and Ticono's. Soon the Plaza will have a Hash House A Go Go.

Fremont Casino Second Street Grill Has a great T-Bone dinner for $18.99.

Pasta Pirate and The Flame and Triple George were already suggested as well as Magnolia's, I would add that although it's a chain Tony Roma's has an inexpensive steak and lobster special.
