TR : Flamingo, Carrot Top & "Did you just rear end a cab?"

Just returned from our 30th anniversary vow renewal with our adult kids...

Will post as a reply, as per TA experts suggest-using paragraphs and ( hopefully- as I am sure all the alcohol is out of my system) proper spelling and grammar!

The trip ( 8/17-8/21) was a chance to hit Vegas with our son, 26, daughter, 22, and DH and I , planning a little vow renewal for our 30th anniversary.

I won't go into details about our flight except to say my dear spouse of 30 years, who is a premier level on United because he flies so much, didn't notice HE was bumped to first class until we were past security...he "offered" to trade seats with me, but since I am 5'2", I fit much better in coach.

I ended up sitting next to a very nice gentleman, who, after our flight, approached my DH in the terminal and told him he was sorry but he and I had decided to run off to the Little White Chapel and get hitched...

We arrived at the Flamingo at 6pm on Wednesday night; We chose Flamingo because it's a sentimental favorite for us- and we could score 3 rooms for super cheap. We had good customer service, and so easy to hop onto the strip. I didn't look for every grungy mark on the carpet or cracked tile, because I had arrived in Vegas!

Trooped up and down the strip that night, watching the fountains, posing for pictures, and eating here and there. It was fun to have our over-21 kids with us checking out the casinos and watching the street performers ( have they increased in number or what?)

Did not win big-just pulled 20 bucks after some roulette, so it was time for bed. I was already on Vegas time, and a mere 4 hours of sleep later, got up to run 3 miles on the strip with my DH...nothing removes those toxins like sweating, right?

Day 2- "Can you say YOU WERE RIGHT one more time?"

I suprised my family with Carrot Top tickets; after reading the reviews here on TA- and their reaction was dead air space... I assured them they would really like it and would be telling me I was right the rest of the trip!

In the am, we drove our rental car to the Gold and Silver Pawn store, and got right in, at 10am on a Thursday. Of course, the main guys were not there, but we had a little look-see and my son and daughter bought the t-shirts and mugs while I took an old, broken ring over to see what they would give me for it. The guy gave me a crisp hundred dollar bill, which was the most I scored the whole trip...

Gotta go feed my horses- will write more in a bit.

Wow kudos for actually using that pawn shop as a pawn shop.

After the "Pawn Stars" shop, we met up with extended fam consisting of DH's brother, his wife of 34 years, and their daughter and her 1 year old, (yeah, yeah I KNOW, a baby in Vegas? but it wasn't my baby) They traded their week of FL time share to stay at Polo Towers and they spent most of their time seeing off strip stuff like Bryce Canyon, Hoover Dam, etc. We got the best of both worlds- cuddle with the great niece, get her all sugared up then hand her back when she was fussy and head off to the penny slots!

We treated the whole gang to the buffet at the Flamingo; and all you TA folks who warned me it wasn't that great were on the nose. It was fine for the unfussy toddler, and the buffet was clean and well presented- but compared to all the other Vegas buffets we'd eaten at, not so much...at least we got a seat by the flamingos.

At the Luxor early to pick up our tickets for Carrot Top; and to lose a crisp 100 dollars ( yep, my Pawn $$) at penny slots...and to try to get a few Vodka Collins under the belt before showtime.

My whole family laughed and laughed at CT show- and coming out of the venue, I made them stop and say individually- "You were RIGHT; it was a funny show" I milked that the whole trip, cause I don't hear it nearly enough!

The next day my DH and I took our group of 8 to Margaritaville for 8am breakfast on the balcony; we were all dressed in our vow renewal finery so the waitress gave us a a free gift after learning it was our 30th...a big plate of sausage-

I do have to insert here, my engineer hubby, who is not romantic, nor spontaneous, suprised me by dragging me over to one of those "pearl in a shell" booths while we were at Luxor- he really did know 30th anniversary was pearl; which looks so much better on my neck than a sausage!

After breakfast we went down to the waterfall inside the habitat at the Flamingo, and with our daughter and son by our side, recited handwritten vows ( I'll skip the mushy stuff) and then out of BIL's backpack came a bottle of cabernet and 7 glasses- whoo hoo! What's better in Vegas than a 9am vino as sweat is trickling down your back while in maxi dresses and khakis? Needless to say- it was clink, clink, take pics, exchange hugs all around, then "Let's get into shorts and hit the AC!"

As we were walking the Miracle Mile shops, my daughter and I were handed two free tickets for American Storm Male Review. Just around the corner, we were handed two more free tickets. Suddenly, SIL, Niece, daughter and I had new plans for 10pm!

Next up- SIL wins lap dance contest and DH bumps a cab on the strip...
