Well, I and a friend attended the Super Bingo this last weekend at The Plaza. Overall, the experience was good for us, but you could tell they still have a ways to go before their "hard" opening:
1) check in was a nightmare for everyone I spoke to. We arrived at 11 pm to find a still very long line. I had hoped it would be a bit shorter by that time. Three people held up the line for 30 minutes, it was obvious the people behind the counter didn't really know what they were doing. A supervisor went by and the man in front of me asked what the hold up was and she said "the rooms weren't cleaned up yet and executive staff was coming to help out". A lady nearby said "this is a new hotel, why are the rooms needing to be cleaned? That should have been done by now". The manager just shrugged and walked away. I happened to notice that a man about 10 people behind me walked up to the conceierge desk and that person began helping me, so I had my friend hold our place in line and went over to stand behind him. A guy in front of me was needing his keys reprogrammed and he said that he and his wife arrived at 9 a.m. to be told the rooms weren't ready and to come back at 4. Well, everyone had been told that so you can imagine the mayhem at 4 when everybody returned. He was gracious enough to let me get in line in front of him and when it was my turn, I told the woman behind the desk that I was not going to stand there until 2 or 3 a.m. to get a room that was paid for and guaranteed. She immeidately found my reservation and started checking us in. She apologized for the delay and we ended up being put in a suite, which was ready! I didn't argue and we left the desk happy, with the others still in line at the front desk.
2) The suite was very nice, 2 bedrooms 2 baths, a big living room. We had a surprise when we went into the bedroom. There were 2 queen beds with only sheets and pillowcases on them. We heard at bingo the next day that the hotel had no blankets or bedspreads. Evidently the shipment did not come in in time for the soft opening. It didn't bother us, but it did alot of people. Otherwise the room was nice. Mattresses were heavenly, pillows a bit too "big and firm" for me, but it didn't hinder my sleeping. The bathrooms in the bedroom has a separated vanity from the toilet and tub and the toiletries are of a nice quality.
3) No eateries were open yet except Subway and the Cafelatte in the lobby. I eat Subway alot so I took a pass on that. Cafelatte wouldn't honor the $10 off dining cert we were given as part of the bingo package, so we ate alot at Tinoco's Kitchen at The Las Vegas Club. Very good, reasonably priced breakfast. We also ate at The Pasta Pirate in The California on Saturday night. Even the McDonald's at The Plaza wasn't open yet...
4) The new casino is nice. Alot of slots were not up and going yet, but they were bringing them up. The casino is still small, but it's nice. There is more rooms to walk between the slots and the slots are new. The table games were nice to me, had alot of $5 3:3 BJ available during our stay.
Hopefully, the kinks will be worked out in the system soon. All the people at bingo were given additional free play money, and a comped room for a future stay to apologize for the inconveniences we all encountered. I thought that a great gesture by the new ownership group and everyone around me did also.
Overall, I really liked what I saw and will stay there again. My next trip is January, so I am hoping the blankets and bedspreads are there by then!
