Don't believe everything in the media in regards to new projects in the works. Much of it is smoke and mirrors and never gets off the drawing boards. Have seen stories like this in the past dozens of times without results. Even when the shovels start digging the project is not guaranteed to completion...think Fountainbleu and Echelon and does anybody remember the project that was promoted for the old Frontier site a few years back? Nope!

There is a HUGE difference in building from scatch a resort and restoring and updating a resort. Nothing is for sure especially in today's ecomony, but you gotta think someone will do something with it.

I would like to see it remodeled/updated and reopened. I liked my stay there, and it was a perfect place to take my mother. I hope the developer doesn't turn it into another shiny, sparkly, contemporary hotel. I have nothing against the new strip properties like that. But I don't want to see all of the "old" Las Vegas disappear, only to be replaced by hotels that could fit into any large city.

Thanks TCraword for the link, all it needed was cleaned up a bit. Not a fan of SNs ''hip nightclub'' style hotel for the The Sahara. Some great memories from the place, i miss it and its Dollar Days.

Hip Nightclub? Just what the strip needs - more greasy LA posers and pimps.

I would love to see the Sahara back. Its demise was probably due to its location, what with the surrounding north strip area becoming a bit of a wasteland in recent years.

Even if they were to renovate and re-open it they would face the same problems getting sufficient numbers through its doors and spending in its casino. It would only work as part of a much wider regeneration of the north strip area.

I would love to see the Sahara re-opened. I would buy some nights there the next time in the area.

Sahara still has brand recognition. Imploding it instead of retaining the shell adds significant cost and severs all historical ties IMO. With the other imploded boneyards in the vicinity, I'd like to see a revamp a la The Trop.

Problem right now is still its location. Just not enough around it to help keep it vital.

What concerned me most was the speculation about the LV Hilton. I know it lost its Hilton affiliation and must change its name but was unaware of the severity of its current financial status. Can't imagine that, with its proximity to LVCC, it would follow the Sahara but who knows. Would hate to lose that book...
