Seriously I think arriving that late you are less likely to get an upgrade. I found that late arrivals meant I couldn't even BUY an upgrade sometimes.

That being said, if you have been wanting to try it, I think you should. Then we will all know the answer when you get back.

I suggest as I always do, to book the room you want. If you are counting on something more, you might be disappointed. There is no trick involved.

Good luck

I would always book what I wanted in advance. However, if I were to try the $20 bribe then I would probably hold $100 in my hand - surely this is more enticing? That said, it may only be worth that amount if you are staying 5 nights or more for example?

Anyway, like I say, just call and see how much an upgrade would be - you may be surprised?

This is such a point of contention here. I don't understand why really. Bribe, schmibe says I. That's like calling a tip to a waitress a bribe.

I say give 'er a go and see what happens.

Not even close

The waitress performed a "service"for you so a tip is in order/For the upgrade you are trying to bribe the clerk into giving you something you didn't pay for.

Tricks are for magicians.Got it?

Exactly right, if you do not get offered the upgrade are you still going to offer the $20???? Let's not mince words here - it's a bribe.

The hotels are aware of this and let it happen, also. No tricks to it.

Give it a shot, and at worst, you'll get turned down and they'll keep the 20.
