Red Rock side trip...

Hi!

We're staying at Wynn's and want to rent a car to go to Red Rock. Where is the closest car rental from the hotel? When should we go there ? Friday or Saturday (dec.2 or dec.3) ... Leave in the morning or at/before lunch ? We want to drive the loop and maybe walk/hike the trails.

What are you suggestions ?

I'm not sure about the car rental location. I think a Friday would be less crowded than a Saturday. Traffic won't be much of a problem. You can take Spring Mountain Road west and avoid highways.

Here's a link with more info:

IN the hotel. Hertz.

"Leave in the morning or at/before lunch ?"

"Friday or Saturday "

Can't imagine much difference, it would be up to you. I imagine it would be warmer in the afternoon, but without knowing what kind of weather is going to take place 3 weeks from now...I've never found the place to be overly crowded weekend vs. weekdays, so either one is probably fine.

Sunday afternoon can be busy. I also go friday. You can take 215 from LAS (if you rent from LAS) to Charleston and turn left. It''s one way through Red Rock.,

Just rent a car at the airport when you arrive. you will save $50 on your airport when you come and go from the airport! Even if your car sits in the parkage most of the time, it is free and waaaaaayyy cheaper to rent in advance and pick up at the airport than on the strip. Drive to Red Rock and why not Freemont or something another day?

We rented from Enterprise, they will come and pick you up. There are many locations close. The one we used was on Flamigo west of the Palms. These people were wonderful. If you have time join enterprise and they will send you a free upgrade, we ordered a standard for 34.00 a day and ended up with a very nice SUV no charge. If your going to Red Rock I would suggest an SUV as there are a few off road areas you might want to see.

I don't know of any rental company that will allow their vehicles to be used off-road. In most cases it's in violation of the contract.

If you decide to not rent a car but still want to see Red Rock Canyon you could consider Pink Jeep Tours or Scoot City Tours. Just did Scoot City Tours on Sunday and it was awesome. These neat little scooters that you drive the loop in and stop for views and short hiking. Pink Jeep Tours is similar but you are in a small bus.

Go to Red Rock Friday morning (Saturday will be a lot more crowded with bicycles and locals) - have lunch at Red Rock Station casino (buffet or restaurant as you wish) before returning to the strip.
