Best Casino For A First Time Black Jack Game...HELP

My friends and I are going to Vegas in 2 weeks for my 40th birthday. I want to play black jack for the first time. I usually only play the slots. I have been practicing online so I have an idea of how to play. I have only watched a few games before and that was awhile ago. I am very nervous about sitting down at a table for the first time to play. Where should I go to have a great first experience playing black jack? Also stupid question alert: How do I indicate to the dealer I want another card without saying it? I know there is a way but obviously online I don't do that so can someone give me some info on what to do. I just don't want to look like a moron. Also any tips I should know would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Try the Golden Gate downtown - they have low limits and dealers who are just learning so it's slow paced. To indicate you want another card, tap on the table with your index finger behind your cards. And to stay, you wave your hand over your cards, palm down. It will be second nature in no time. Enjoy blackjack - it has good odds and is a great social game - you can play for hours get free drinks and if you play basic strategy, you will not lose your shirt.

To request another card, you simply tap your finger on the table. To stand, simply wave off with your hand. You can stand back and observe at a table before you sit down and watch what the other players do to get an idea.

During the week and in the morning are your best times, since the limits will be lower, and it won't be as crowded. Just be sure to let the dealer know it is your first time, and they will usually guide you and give you tips along the way. Usually other players at the table will be willing to help, too.

As for where to play, it all depends on how much per hand you are willing to gamble. The limits will be a little higher on the strip ($10+), but you will find lower limits off-strip and downtown.

Try to play at MGM properties on the strip, and stay away from the CET properties. The rules are much more favorable at the MGM properties.

Something to consider are the WIN cards. These can be purchased at the player's club and come with non-negotiable chips to use at the tables. You can get them for $20 at Mandalay Bay and Luxor, and they come with $30 in chips. You can get them for $10 at Excalibur, Tropicana, Circus Circus, and Four Queens, and they come with $15 in chips. Check out this website for more info: http://www.wincards.com

You can also purchase a Basic Strategy card at most of the gift shops, and you can use this at the tables to help make the "right" decisions.

Good luck, and HAVE FUN!!!

To know where you are staying would help. Don't be nervous the dealer will help you,"If" you are allowed to hold your cards (single and double deck) and you want another card just scraped the felt of the table with the tip of your cards toward you and if you want to stay just slide your cards under your casino chipe, remember only one hand on the cards. If they are dealing out of a "shoe" "multiple decks" wave your hand toward yourself on the table if you want cards and if you are styaing wave your hand AWAY from you over your cards.Ask anybody and they will be glad to help

You also may want to get yourself some strategy cards to help with your basic strategy-you can usually find them at the casino gift shops or online(I got a large print one from Amazon for my poor old eyes). Also if you have questions at the table- ask-everyone is always glad to help, from the dealers to your fellow players.

I think I will be there at the same time as you-will look for you at the tables!! :-)

Actually I've lost my shirt playing perfect basic strategy LOTS of times ( $2000 free buffets taste awful :) ) but eton is right about playing basic strategy. It will lower the house edge to nearly 0.50 percent or even lower if you play on a table that pays 3:2 on blackjacks (avoid the 6:5 rip off). There's no such thing as a "starter" casino, you just want to find the best rules possible for your bankroll.

A great resource on rules and blackjack etiquette can be found at www.wizardofvegas.com . Look for the section titled las Vegas blackjack survey and find the lowest house edge for your betting level. Have fun!

Don't worry about it. If you know basic strategy, it will take you about 30 seconds to learn how to signal for a card or not. You will be nervous at first but if you just tell the dealer (and the rest of the people at the table) that you are a new player, 99% of the time everyone will be more than patient with you.

It's just really not that difficult and can be lots of fun.

Just relax and have a good time.

Sounds like we will be there about the same time as well. We will be there from 23 to 27 January and staying at the Imperial Palace. When are you going and where are you staying?

As others have stated, where to play is purely up to you. If you want the best rules (for a player), then head off-strip or downtown.

I like Rhinomans idea of using the WIN packages. Play in the morning or early afternoon. I suggest finding an empty table, tell the dealer you are new to BJ. Most dealers will be more than willing to help (please tip them if you are satisfied with them). If you are uncertain on if you should hit or stand, ask the dealer - they will tell you (remember, even playing each hand perfectly, the house still has an edge - so the dealer telling you how to play will not "hurt" the casino).

Finally, you do need to do a hand motion on every had (for the camera). Tap a finger or two behind your cards for a hit. Wave you hand across the top of the cards for stay. Put a matching stack of chips behind your bet to double down. Put a matching stack of chips next to your bet to split (I also flash the two finger "V" when I want to split).

Unless you are playing a single deck (or some double deck games) that have the cards dealt down, NEVER touch the cards. For a first timer, I suggest playing where all the cards are dealt up so the dealer can help you.

ANother note on the WIN packages - they will have a little cardboard dial thingie in it that has basic strategy on it - you may use this (or any basic strategy card) at the tables that you can reference. You cannot have any type of electronic devices at the table to aid you (you also cannot use a cell phone/text while seated at the table).

When are you going to Vegas? I'll be bringing a Vegas newbie with me on Jan 25 - Jan 30. He wants to play some BJ for the 1st time as well. Will you be flying out of Cleveland or Detroit (we will be flying out of Detroit on the 8:45am Delta flight on the 25th)?

Oh thanks so much. I wondered if I could have a card with that info on it while I was at the table. I tend to forget if I don't have my sheet. I will go and buy one. I am excited to play with other people instead of online. Thanks

NO WAY!!! We are flying out of Detroit on the 28th same flight time. How funny. Small world. Most of us have been before at least once but we have two girls who will be in Vegas for the first time!
