Oh no! Our special Palazzo stay has been taken over by HP!

I have been planning a trip to Vegas, coming from Australia, to celebrate a special birthday. We chose the Palazzo and have based all our restaurant choices etc on this and have been very much looking forward to staying there.

The rates for the week we are staying (June 3-8) were $329 and I thought I'd wait a while to see if they go down. Recently they went up to $469. I emailed the Palazzo to ask why the rates were so high at that time and they said there is a HP convention and availability will be limited.

I am so disappointed! Does anyone know how many people are expected for this convention? Would it feel super crowded? I can't afford $469 anyway. Would the rates come down closer to the time?

I am very much a planner and now I feel like everything's gone out the window and I don't know what to do.

Sorry to be overly dramatic. It's just a very special trip for us.

Is there a reason you have to stay at Palazzo? Wynn will probably also be expensive because it is in the same area. But you could check with Aria or THEhotel. Both can provide the type of experience you are seeking for this special occasion.

Or maybe you could move up to Four Seasons or Mandarin Oriental.

Why would you wait?

Booking is free. Changing the reservation to a lower rate is free. Canceling the reservation is free.

Waiting to make a reservation could only cost you more money.

Book and re-book often, I says.

Well, that's a lesson learned.

The rates will probably go down though.

I know, undathesea. I should have booked then. I just thought $329 was pretty high and I was over confident : (

So you think the rates could come down, even with the convention?

Thanks, ktinca. Yes, we sort of had our heart set on Palazzo. We like the location and the restaurants within the complex. My other choice would have been Wynn but I don't like to compromise once I've made a decision. LOL!

Stay across the street at TI, it's nice and significantly cheaper then V/P. There's a foot bridge that goes right into Venetian so it's not a big deal getting over there for your dinner reservations.

The problem is that when there is a convention at the Sands, all the hotels in the area go up. Same thing with the MGM Arena, a major event and all the hotels near them increase the rate.

Don't pick on poor HP. They need a little good news right now.

Awww, that's too bad. I had the same thing happen, but luckily, I wasn't traveling as far as you are. And lucky for me, it was at a moderately priced hotel/casino. I learned the hard way. Now I choose the hotel early, book it, and call when the prices go down, even for just one night. I hope you can find another property you like or can afford to stay where you want to.

It's always a bummer when you have your heart set on a place, but I'd look around for a better deal sooner rather than later and book it. If Palazzo does come back down, then you can cancel and rebook, but I doubt it will if it has risen that high so suddenly. I loved staying at the Palazzo too for a few years, and no place else even came close when I fantasized about Vegas. But since losing my comp offers, and even more because they have changed the casino machine offerings so much I don't even like playing there anymore, I've discovered several other places I like as well. Encore and THEHotel at Mandalay are my alternatives now, and even places like Aria and Cosmo have their merits (although I don't like their casino games either.). I've had some great trips since breaking up with Palazzo/Venetian, so don't be afraid to venture out. I still go to V/P for a meal or two on each trip, but I don't even stop to play there anymore.

You can get the Trump for those days for $100/night right now on hotwire. Of course, there is a resort fee that you'll have to factor in, about $20/night.
