Driving to Vegas from LA are there plenty of Gas(petrol...

I'm driving to LV from LA on Wednesady 5th April, during the day, setting off very early (6AM) from LA (please don't tell me to fly!) Are there plenty of gas staions (and places to eat) on the route or are there lots of long sections without them?

And if anyone has any other comments about the drive (apart from don't do it!)then let me know. Thanks

There are gas stations but they are in 3 primary locations way - Barstow, Baker, or Stateline. Gas is harder to find and more expensive in-between those routes. The longest stretch is between Baker and Stateline - about 45 minutes. I'm driving on Friday and I plan to be filled up!

Depending on which route you take it can vary between about 270 and 320 miles. Originally I was going to go via palmdale and lancaster as it seemed less complicated and din't involve driving through LA. However as I'm leaving early I'm going to take the shortest route which involves a few changes of freeway but hopefully will not be too busy. I have got no real life evidence for any of this but have picked it up through posts on this and the LA forum. Le me know which way you are planning!

If you are leaving at 6am, you should have no problem going through LA. where are you leaving from?

Yes, there are plenty of gas stations and places to eat. also, a couple of rest areas for restrooms.

I always drive to Vegas from LA area, I never need to get gas on the way. Start with a full tank and you should be fine. Barstow has many places to eat (and outlet shops) and gas stations. You will be fine.

Baker has a great place to eat -- the Mad Greek.

The Hacienda hotel near the airport. Thanks for the advivce. The LV forum seems much happier than the LA one. Every time I've posted one there I get tales of woe, which has generally left me confused!

Ellis40 - if you are leaving from the airport area, you may want to stop for gas just in case. Sorry about the LA forum, not all of us are that way. ;)

Have fun!

Ellis, the easiest route is to take the 105 East to the 605 North to the 210 East to the 15 North. You'll be going against most of the LA traffic so my guess is that you'll get to LV in about 4 1/2 hours.

We just made this drive (actually it was from the John Wayne airport). With traffic, it took us 4 1/2 hours and there are several places to get gas. Just plan ahead and do not wait until you are on empty.

if you are a confident driver, and get a map before you take out, you'll do just fine. Car will be full when you pick it up, so half way is Barstow...good place to refill and get a bite to eat. There are cities and towns all the way to Barstow...but after, only Baker, and then Stateline. So, the last two hours or so, are mostly desert scenery.

I'm not sure what the comment related to about the Hacienda, but that hotel was imploded several years ago to make way for the Mandalay Bay Hotel.
