Booked for 50th - June Golden Nugget

Well we finally got my 50th birthday trip booked, we are flying down with two other couples to celebrate and can't wait.

Any tips on this hotel and area? It all looks good on line.

Should we bring a towel for the pool? What are the best restaurants in the area - we are a casual group, not wanting to spend a fortune but love good food all the same.

Thanks for any ideas

Congratulations on booking. You're going to have a wonderful time.

The area you're in is Downtown/Fremont Street. This is a different Vegas to The Strip. An older Vegas. There is an unbelievable amount to do. Come out of your hotel, turn left or right, and explore!

You don't need to take towels for the pool.

You should spread your questions out into separate threads. Ask about things to do Downtown in one and restaurants in the area in another. It just helps people find the threads they can help with.

But first I would recommend doing a forum search for 'Downtown restaurants'. There will be endless threads with information in and the great thing about old threads is you don't have to wait around for people to reply.

Have fun.

we had dinner at the Charthouse at Golden Nugget in January and the food was very good indeed. go on line and check out their menu....ambiance is also very good with a huge fish tank in the middle of the restaurant.

if you sign up for a Landry's Select card, it costs $25 but they give you that back in the form of a dining credit Plus they give you $25 on your birthday. in other words, it's $50 dining credit (but you paid only $25) so you are ahead $25. you can use this credit at the restaurants, excepting the buffet, at the golden nugget.

in addition to the dining credit, if you make your reservation directly with the Landry's Select people, they will upgrade your room upon check in if available. for example, if you booked in a regular room, they may upgrade you to the tower room upon check in if available, but in order to capitalize on this upgrade, the reservation must be made with Landrys.

Golden Nugget also has another great restaurant...Vic and Anthony's which has great food as well. the only restaurant at GN which i think is not good is their buffet, but you can't use the dining credit at the buffet anyhow.

so if you are interested in the landry's select card, just google it and sign up as membership is complimentary....it's a win win situation as i see it.

You will really like the Golden Nugget, I have been there dozens of times. They keep it very clean and the service there is excellent. I do find the slots there are tighter than any place else downtown. Or maybe it just seems that way to me lol. have a great time there on your 50th birthday.

the suites at gn are the lowest in vegas

last time there my daughter was in the classic parlor suite which she got at a fantastic price ,and it would compare to wynn parlor suite

i would phone and mention your birthday and see what rate they will quote for the classic parlor suite

HAPPY BIRTHDAY

Thanks for the birthday wishes I am banking on the saying " what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas". That way I can stay 49 forever lol....except of course if I go back to Las Vegas for another trip.

Happy Birthday !!

Sounds like maybe you are a Vegas newby? The GN is absolutely top notch and a great hotel to stay in. That said, it is downtown and most of Las Vegas happens out on the strip. You can get out to the strip easily by but (might take a while) or taxi.

Great fun to be had downtown, but the great hotels and casinos to be seen (Caesars Palace, Bellagio, Venetian, Wynn, Palazzo, Cosmopolitan, etc. etc. etc. ) are out on the strip. Not the end of the world if you dont see them all but I would definitley recommend trying to see Caesars, Bellagio and Venetian if nothing else.

Great places to eat are everwhere including some good places downtown as well as on the strip. Food deals are probably actually a little better downtown than on the strip.

Have a great time and again, Happy Birthday.

As far as what happens in Vegas staying in Vegas, that does not include your trip report on here when you get back. It is required that you spill every detail on your trip report that happens. We all promise not to tell anyone else !!!!

you will have a blast!! my partner and i love the golden nugget and head there every year.... another trip coming up in april!! for casual dining, we really enjoy the 777 Brew Pub at the Main Street Station. The food is delicious, the beer is excellent and the atmosphere and prices are great. They have an appy hour special on food too. Google Main st. station and check out the menu. Main St. Station also has a very good buffet. Surprisingly, the Fremont Hotel lunch buffet is good too. Last time we were there we went on line and got the coupons from the website www.vegasexperience.com password realvegas

there are two for one coupons for the buffets and other dinners.... we use the buffet coupons for the lunches as we prefer a nice sit down time for dinner. but they are great deals! also... duPars is in the back of the golden gate... (the golden gate is one of our favourite hang outs... great cocktail service, retro style dancing girls on the games tables... hehee.!! fun!! also the home of the 99 cent shrimp cocktail... now 1.99 i believe!) dupars is an older style restaurant/diner with excellent home style cooking. open 24 hours. some people love Hugo's cellar for the fine dining in that area. The chart house in the nugget is good. we especially like hitting up the appy hour there. the food is beautifully presented and very reasonably priced... for the appy hour that is. again... check it out online!

no you don't need a towel for the pool. happy birthday time!!!

if your birthday is truly the month you are going here's a tip. Sign up for the Landry's card. You get $25 on it for signing up and another $25 during your birthday month so there's $50 towards food for one ot their restaurants at Golden Nugget. We used it at The Grotto and it was great.

As a special treat, rent a cabana at the adult only pool if you can afford it.
