Vegas Beat Me Up and Stole My Lunch Money: Solo TR

This was my 5th consecutive solo trip to LV, I know I really need to get some friends. I was in town from April 4th-April 10th. Initially my fiancé was to accompany me on this trip to meet with the Catering manager and take care of some wedding business, but she could not get enough time off to make the trip worthwhile. Hopefully she can come to our wedding. I wanted this trip to do all the stuff I wanted to do and be completely selfish, so that in May I can devote the week to my bride, the mothers and my wedding guests.

In December I wrote a TR entitled "Beer days and Bourbon Nights, A Solo TR" this trip was pretty similar as I had such a great time on that trip that I wanted to somehow replicate it.

I Will post each day as a reply.

Day 1: The Downtown VP Bar Crawl, from what I can remember

I awoke at 5am in my sketchy hotel room in the exotic Romulus Michigan to find no bullet wounds and all my stuff still mine, I had gotten maybe three hours of sleep due to worry that the three alarms I set wouldn't go off (a wakeup call, cell phone and the alarm on the side table) and wouldn't you know it only the cell phone alarm went off that morning. I think even Meatloaf would agree that 1 outta 3 ain't good. I would say the Spirit flight was a success as I landed in the precise city it said on the ticket. Although I didn't get any sleep because silly me accepted an isle seat in the last row where I was constantly bumped into by those waiting to use the can, “I’m sorry my butts in your face”. But as tires hit tarmac I became alive, there is no energy drink in the world that has the same effect as stepping foot in Las Vegas. The shuttle went directly downtown with no stops on the strip and I was the first drop off, this got me to the Four Queens 45 mins earlier than planned. Last trip in December I booked an unknown hotel through hotwire for $25 a night and got the Plaza. When I saw the same price, description and amenities I just assumed the Plaza. I was surprised to see the 4 Queens on the final screen. It was 8:30am and a quiet room in the North Tower was ready. The location of the room was amazing, as the elevators from the Casino were less than 20 steps from Fremont St. The room while dated was very clean and everything worked. I will say that the ducting and heating made some crazy noises, clicking, scratching and wooshing noises. No big deal until you wake up in the middle of the night to the sounds just like someone jamming their hotel key in and out of the door lock, only to jump up and find the noise coming from the overhead vents. Don't worry I was ready to throw down on an intruder, I always am. Something fishy is going on in those ducts, or maybe something ratty.

Today I was embarking on Video poker bar Crawl along all the Casinos in the Fremont Area including El Cortez and the Gold Spike. I used Freemontstreetbars.com to map out a route and to play $10 or $20 and have a drink at each Casino. First stop Main Street Stations Boars Head bar, but the buffet first for fuel. It was a great feeling sitting down and slipping that first twenty into a full pay JOB machine and receiving my first Beer at 9:30am. So much excitement and so much hope of Royals to come. I figured the entire crawl would take around 8 hours, you know just another day in the office.

I spent the next 6 hours playing VP, drinking beer, mixed drinks and even a shot or two all while having great conversations with bartenders and players at MSS, the Cal, LVC, Mermaids, Binions, Fremont, Gold Spike, ElCortez, the D. By the time I finished 3 beers at the ElCo Parlor bar things were getting hazy, The D was a quick stop because the longbar VP paytables is balls, even though they were voted the best Video Poker in Las vegas 2012 by the Review Journal. Got to the Four Queens around 2:30pm but before sitting down at the bar I placed my Masters bets, $5 on each Tiger, Mickelson and Jason Day, well we all know how that turned out. I had heard about their Mai Tais from another TR, so I had a couple of those. Things are very foggy now as I vaguely hitting a Royal with deuces and going to my room to use the washroom. I opened my eyes to find myself fully clothed on the top of the sheets. Where was I?, I looked around ok I'm not at home, shot up out of the bed and ripped the curtains open and saw the side of the Gold Nugget. Oh ya..... I'm in Vegas, but its dark outside, turning the alarm clock around I see that its 11:18pm, I was like "Whaaaaa, no way it’s 11pm, found my phone and it showed 11:20pm. The fog started to lift, Fremont St VP crawl, Beer, Beer, Beer, Mai tais and a bad luck streak; I reached in my pocket and found no cash left from the $330 I started with. I looked around hoping to see a wad of cash on the desk, but nothing, looking further to find a $40 ticket from the 4Qs on the TV stand. Meaning I managed to cash out ahead $20 for my first win of the trip and unfortunately the last time I would cash out ahead on VP until 5 days later.

I had the diligence to make notes on my Iphone showing the order I visited Casinos and tracking my loses and drinks consumed at each. I wish I still had this to report but I must have drunkenly said screw it and deleted the note.

Day 1.5 to come...

Dangerous to be solo and drunk in Las Vegas. Luckily when you woke up you didn't see a wad of ATM receipts or cash advance receipts from your credit cards! LOL!!

Although, you still have a few more days left...

"there is no energy drink in the world that has the same effect as stepping foot in Las Vegas" I'll second that emotion!

Fun TR to read. Love to read more of your solo adventure.

"Hopefully she can come to our wedding." - Love it... it would be kind of hard to have the wedding without the Bride - other members of the wedding party are indeed optional, but Bride and Groom, pretty much a necessity.

Can't wait to read the rest of your report! Are you getting married this May? We will be there at the end of the month!

And mucho thanks again for doing recon work for me... Getting your message has made my trip planning much much easier :)

I won't read your report until it's finished, if I notice. But I wanted you to know I love your title, and we've all had trips where we've felt the same.

Thanks ktinca, the hardest part of this report was the title, but the way I felt during the trip was really summed up by the title. I have written the entire report but am posting in phases over a day or two, as its pretty long.

Loving your TR so far! BTW, I've had the same experience before. Wake up, in bed alone, look at clock and it's 10pm! WTF? Go back down to casino and find my husband and ask when I fell asleep, he tells me 6:30! LOL! OOPS!

Looking forwrd to the rest! :)
