TR- 1st timers, 6 scousers on tour

Thought I would have a bash at a trip report and wanted to say thanks to everyone who answered our questions before we went. It was our first time in Vegas and suffice to say we will be back!

There was 6 of us who flew from Manchester UK to Vegas and we were joined by a 7th out there, 4 girls and 3 lads all aged between 27 and 30.

Will post as replies

Day one,

Will try and keep this report brief..............

Arrived at Manchester Airport three hours before take off as required for an international flight. Seems like we were pretty much the only ones who had taken any notice of this as check in wasn't busy and we were done and dusted in 20 mins. We were flying with Thomas Cook and they were very strict with allowances. We were allowed 20kg (paid upgrade from 15G) and one bag for hand luggage that wasnt to hold more than 5kg. Travelling with girls they had typically ignored this and brought loads of hand luggage including one who brought a bag that just contained a hat - random. We managed to confuse the girl at checkout enough that she lost track of hand luggage and made it through without any extra fees. After the mandatory pint and breakfast at Giraffe we took off on time.

The flight was excellent I thought, which was good as some of the reviews are poor, plenty of leg room, decent films and the food was actually really good, thai chicken curry in fact - beats the normal stuff I would expect on a plane.

Ten and a half hours later I was watching the camera that points out of the front of the plane and started to see the biggest hotels I had ever seen. Amazing landing (the onboard cameras were a nice touch I thought). Through immigration in 20 minutes, a little wait for our bags and then into a limo to Planet Hollywood towers (now elara).

At this point the sensible girls and one of the lads went to bed for a few hours. Not me and my mate. We checked in and went to the pool bar to see what was happening. Its not the biggest poor by any stretch but we had a good laugh. We blew $200 between us on Jaegerbombs ($9) Corona ($11) and Vodka and cokes ($12) - this was the most expensive bar we came across (did I mention that this was most likely to be a drinking holiday?!!)

Eventually the others were ready and it was off to explore the strip....

To get to the strip we had to stroll through the miracle mile - I quite liked it to be fair and though I was worried about not staying in one of the casino hotels by the end of the holiday I was pleased we had picked here.

From what I can recall we stopped off at PRB bar inside the mall, had a couple of drinks in a bar in PH and then hit a restaurant of the outside of PH (cant remember what it was called sorry, other than it was mexian and quite nice). By now we had been up for a serious amount of time and we hadn't even been near a slot machine. Went over to Paris and lost $150 in about an hour though the cocktail waitress was excellent. Eventually gave up on the gambling and moved into a bar in Paris, took up some seats and the girls went for a dance.

I'd been up for about 28 hours at this point so was in no mood at all when the girls came back and said that the guy behind the bar wouldn't serve them as they didn't have their passports (we all had drivers licenses). I am totally aware that ID is required at all times and I am not even that bothered that it had to be a passport but we had been in here for hours, gambled (and lost), drank in other bars and been served by cocktail waitresses with no ID at all.

The guy behind the bar had a really bad attitude (one of only two people we met in Vegas who wasn't amazingly friendly). Explained the situation to him , he literally laughed at us. Asked to speak to his manager who eventually came down and explained about the ID (which we accepted - UK drivers licenses are easily forged apparently) we promised to bring our passports back tomorrow and he served us. So happy ending.

Lost another $50 on batman (this will be a recurring theme) and headed to bed about 5am. Had a brilliant first night though and remember thinking that this was going to be a long old week!!!

Woke up after a few hours sleep feeling slightly worse for wear but having been promised by one of the girls in our group that she would take us to be best breakfast we had ever had. Who could resist that?

The brekkie turned out to be the Wynn buffet and to be fair it was like nothing at all we have in the UK. Who would have known that toffee apples and ice cream could be eaten at breakfast? It was $20, easily worth it - special mention to the omelette dude who was incredibly friendly. Really really enjoyed it.

From there a designated day of exploring commenced starting through the Wynn which I thought was nice and then to the Venetian. What a hotel that is... I was starting to feel a little bit ropey so didn't go on the gondolas but they looked like fun. Decided I would take myself off for an afternoon nap, got lost and somehow ended up in the Palazzo. These casinos are not made for getting out of are they? I got lost again and then stumbled across the batman slot that I had been playing unsuccessfully the night before. Put in $100 left with $178 so was pleased. Eventually found the taxi place and went back to the hotel

The evening was one of the few were we had anything booked, in this instance the Steak House at Circus Circus. Jumped a taxi down from our hotel and have to say the restaurant reminded me of something out of the Sopranos. I like the Sopranos though so enjoyed it. It was one of the more expensive meals we had (about $100 each including wine and spirits) but still not that expensive I I didn't think. I had french onion soup and Fillet Mignon - no room for desert for any of us. I would defo go back here.

We then trotted through the casino stopped off for a few free drinks whilst batman reclaimed his money from the afternoon and then decided we would head to Freemont Street.

Jumped a cab down there watched them switch all the lights off for their show, had a few drinks in once of the casinos and batman took another $40 dollars from me.

Headed to Henneseys the Irish bar that is down there who had a live band on. The bar itself wasn't that busy but we had a really good time. It cheaper down there as well. Had a few vodkas and jaegerbombs and was introduced to the Vegabomb by the barman (no idea what was in that). Stayed for a few hours, had a dance and then wandered over to a casino opposite (sorry I am struggling with the names of the freemont casinos!)

Couldn't find batman so had a go on wheel of fortune, got through to the feature and left $120 up. All good. Time to call it night so headed home for some well earnt kip.

Friday the 4th was going to be a slightly different day for us as we needed to be fully functioning for the 5th.

As this was our designated pool day we promised each other three things

1) No drinking at the pool

2) No drinking before 6pm

3) No Gambling before 6pm

Needless to say we didn't plan on encountering an entire batallion of US Marines at the pool bar. Spent this afternoon having a real good laugh and drinking far to much. It was windy that day and my eyes dried out which meant I needed to go and find some eye drops. Why I thought I would find them at the batman slot in PH I have no idea. Lost (I think) about another $70, grabbed some eyedrops and an earl of sandwich (nice sandwiches them!)

Spent the evening in PH with my mate playing craps, steered clear myself as was starting to get concerned with my batman obsession. Hit the sack for midnight as the 5th was set to be a big day for us!

10. Re: TR- 1st timers, 6 scousers on tour

I had never heard of Cinco de Mayo before. Or as it now know in my household Cinco de Drinko, so it was by chance that we were in vegas for this day. The 5th of may was also the FA Cup Football (soccer lol) final, the Mayweather fight and one of our girls birthdays so it was set to be a long and expensive day.

The football kicked off at 9am so we made sure we were in PRB inside the miracle mile for 9am. I had a breakfast burrito and forgot that chips were crisps so had a side of bbq crisps with them. It was nice enough but no the best food we had out there. Buckets of Corona were $25 with 6 bottles in them so we started with them. I should point out that the FA cup final was between Liverpool and Chelsea and all of our party are from Liverpool. I support the other (better) team in Liverpool, Everton and therefore wanted Chelsea to win.

Soccer is so not important in the US that they would not even let us turn the sound up. We left at half time (liverpool were losing which was good for me) and headed over to a bar inside PH which had sound on. Didn't know there were so many American Liverpool fans. Had to have quite a long debate with a guy from Chicago about whether my club were from the same city. Finally managed to convince him were were.

The full time whistle went and Liverpool lost, I was now in a really good mood but the others were all really upset. They went to get showered and I had another go on batman (its right outside earl of sandwich in PH if anyone else wants to lost their money) lost $80ish. The others eventually reappeared and we suddenly realised that we had nowhere to watch the boxing (far to expensive for tickets)

I wasn't that bothered but four of the others were so they paid $85 dollars each to watch it on a tv in the mirage. I said that I would go for something to eat with the birthday girl and we would all meet up later.

We split into two group and me and the Bday girl headed to the MGM as I wanted to see what the atmosphere was like. It was electric. Lost another $50 on batman in there and then went to do the CSI experience. Had a coupon for it and enjoyed it though would have been a little disappointed if I had paid full price.

We then made our way towards the mirage and settled on La Salsa cantina as it was Cinco de Drinko (Just next door to the mirage I believe). I wont lie I was attracted in by the dancing girls outside and decided we would stop off for a drink before we found food. The drinks were all on 'offer' so we sank between us 2 yards of margaritas, 6 tequila shots and four buckets of a Mexican beer I had never heard of. The atmosphere in here was really good and the staff were superb. Its weird as it made me think that maybe if we had the same tipping culture in the UK our service would be a little better like it is in Vegas.

By this point the meal idea had gone out of the window and was replaced by some free buffalo wings from the guy in La Salsa. The boxing was nearly done so we headed into the mirage and did a bit of gambling. The birthday girl managed to hit Red 21 on roulette but she only had $2 on it but still got something like $70 back.

Next it was time to hit a 'proper' bar so when the others came out of the boxing we were drawn to Senor Frogs. This place was mental, full of beautiful american girls and a crazy DJ. Cost us $10 as a cover and I have no idea how long we stayed for, other than it was a long time. Taxi home at the end and sleep till the next day!
