HELP! looking for great food and drink - on a budget!

My husband and I are in Las Vegas for a week but we're on a bit of tighter budget - can you help suggest places to eat on the Strip that you consider great value?

To give a guide, we're in our late 20s and don't like things too pretentious, but appriciate good food, wine and beer

Thanks for your help!!

Lizzie :)

It might help if you give some indication of your budget.

I found that when I was in Vegas I would often eat a large breakfast/brunch/early lunch at one of the buffet's. This would do me pretty much the entire day and I only really needed a snack in the evening. Another option might be to take a trip downtown to Freemont street where the eats a bit better priced.

Hash-house-a-go-go serves HUGE proportions and you can share a plate for an small extra charge I believe. It's in the IP. Otherwise most hotels have food courts.

BUDGET - for dinner we would spend on a nice meal $30 for 2 courses per person + wine or beer (as a reference I'm really looking forward to eating at Mesa Grill)

I suppose I'm looking for suggestions at the cheaper end of classy... if that helps :-S

You shouldnt have a problem with that budget, have you looked into www.restaurant.com they sell vouchers for a good range of restaurants. The new discount code is DINE. When searching use zip code 89109. Hope you have a great trip.

I love Cheescake Factory (in the Forum Shops at Caesars) and it's sister the Grand Lux Cafe (in the Venetian). Neither is ' budget' as such, but both are very reasonably priced (cheap compared to anything of similar quality in the UK) and the food is consistently great. The portions are enormous too, so you could easily share and still leave full. There are plenty of entrees around the $15 -$20 mark, with lunchtime options for less.

there are lots of restaurants in Las Vegas that offer good value for money. it is often worth speaking to waiter/waitresses about portion sizes and which meals they would recommend so you can get the best value for money. for example strip burger which someone has mentioned previously has an extensive menu - shakes, chilli fries, cakes etc - but once you see the portion sizes you may be happy with just a burger!!!

One of the best values on the strip- lunch at Milos (Cosmopolitan). It is an elegant, upscale and expensive (for dinner) restaurant that serves a fantastic lunch -three courses for only $20.12. Ask to be seated on its lovely enclosed terrace with some of the tables overlooking the strip/CityCenter. It has become my favorite lunch restaurant. The food is great. Although the menu has changed, this will give you some idea of what the restaurant (and some of the food) looks like:

Another review by a well known Vegas food critic:

Another great lunch option- Noodle Exchange at the Gold Coast. Soup, spring roll, rice and entree- $7. You will have to take the free Coast shuttle from Bills:

I you are not planning on eating at Mesa for that price. The dinner entrees alone are more than $30pp.

Others have given you good advice. Also get an American Casino guide.

I'd add BLT Burger and California Pizza Kitchen, both at Mirage, to the list.

I wasn't that impressed with Mesa, and it was closer to $100 per person with drinks, tax and tip.

If you have just an entree (main dish) and avoid alcohol you can stay under $30 per person at many places at lunch. Many places also have happy hours in late afternoon, typically about 3-6. There were some lists posted recently. You won't have full selection of everything on the menu, but its a good way to sample some nicer places.

Keep in mind taxes and tips are on top of the price on the menu. So, mentally add 25-30% to the price you see on the menu to get the "out the door" total.
