How's the D rooms?

Leaving for Vegas in just 7 Days!! As usual we go mid week to save money on rooms. Actually comped three nights at the Flamingo and then our 4th night is reserved at the Golden Nugget as we typically like to have one or two nights downtown. We were able to add a fifth night (Friday), but leaving early Saturday morning. Don't want to spend much since we really won't be in the room much except to sleep a few hours. We are downtown anyway and I see that I can stay at the D for $49. Don't see much cheaper than that. I just want a clean, comfortable room...will this place do?

I don't believe the rooms have been remodeled yet, but it will be fine for one night. We always stay here and the rooms are always clean and a decent size. We have never had any problems at Fitzgerald's.

Rooms as said are a bit old but fine otherwise. 1 wee tip that i lifted from this board, ask for a corner room if available. Some great views to be had. Will be checking in there ourselfs again a week on Friday :-)

Yep - that was my tip, the corner rooms are larger (slightly) and some of them have jacuzzi tubs.

We are headed out tonight and will be checking in there on Thursday, comped for 4 nights. We have always stayed at the Fitz and are very interested in the changes (my comps thus far have been equivalent).

I have never stayed in the D, but I have to wonder how miserable a place has to be to WANT TO be associated with Detroit. Detroit stands out in my mind as one of the Top 10 HeIIholes in the U.S. High unemployment, high foreclosures and vacant buildings (kind of like Vegas in those respects!!), but high crime, large sections of the city where the cops are unwilling to travel, rampant drug abuse, rampant gangs, ... -- the worst of the worst. So why the fuk would any casino seek to so brand itself??

MissMaileLynn- i cant remember who it was to be honest but if it was you then thanks, good tip. Ill be asking for 1 again on Friday next week.

And yes, comps still the same, 2 out of the 6 nights, will do for me. Makes me smile as we arent gamblers but they picked me out a couple years ago to play some bingo thingy promotion outside and amongst other things i won raffle tickets for a car. The draw was months later so i got a letter which entitled me to 2 nights over the draw weekend. Being in Europe it was never going to be pratical but the promotion desk told me to just ring and explain my story next time i wanted to stay there. I did and they comped me 1 night. Following year 2 nights, this year 2 nights. Im more than happy with that considering we gamble very very little.

16gauge- i wrote a review last year, much the same as yours.

Any update on whether or not someone has landed a renovated room? I haven't seen anyone yet say one is done, odd as their website states "May 2012".
