Weather in January is generally cool to down right cold. Pack layers, and a jacket.

Can you please tell us your budget and a bit more info so we can better suggest a hotel.

CES (Consumer Electronics Show) will be in Vegas Jan 10-13 2013. You need to try and avoid this week. The CES is the only convention I know of that can "sell out" Vegas and room rates are extremely high, it's almost impossible to get into a good restaurant or show and car rentals are terrible.

I've been in Vegas the last 4 January and the weather has fluctuated from light jacket to heavy coat. s Norgetroll said, layering is the way to go.

So, say around $100-$150 USD? As traveler771 very correctly says, room rates are through the roof during CES so try to avoid or plan staying well off strip if wanting to stay within budget.

Otherwise, you should have your pick of properties during the post-Xmas lull while most are dealing with their January credit card statements:(
