Vegas on a Whim... Last minute advice needed

We booked 1.5 weeks ago and haven't planned much. We plan on dinner at N9NE next staurday. We are staying at Encore... Here is a few questions to get started:

Looks like highs of 106 all weekend... will this be too hot to enjoy riding around in a Jeep with the top off?

What is a good comedy show? We have seen Terry Fator, anything that made you laugh as much?

Now that we're starting to get offers, I am reluctant to gamble a lot at Encore as I am almost gold at Mlife and read here that Encore comps are harder to come by... True? Assumption?

Throw anything else at us as well. We go to Vegas frequently but usually with months of planning.

from a comedy side, carrot top is very funny and is good fun for all types. if you are not easily offended and can take strong language i highly recommed Vinny Favorito, he is funny as hell. My wife and I visit vegas 4-5 times a year and the one thing I have learned is gambling with comps in mind is not really worth it. we have been platinum at mlife for a couple years and always get comped but when we were gold we only recieved a few comps and mainly discounted rooms. yes Caesars properties give away comps on a much more liberal basis than other properties but its because there properties are simply not as nice as the majority of strip properties. Wynn and Encore are fantastic properties that dont hand out comps to slot players because that is not where they make the bulk of there money. Last time we were walking through Encore in Feb half of the blackjack tables were running with a 1k min and people were betting 5-10k per hand, and they had 4 tables running. My couple grand on slots just doesnt match up but we still love the quality of the properties.

I have only recently (last two years) started staying at Wynn and Encore and they have been very generous with their comps...we haven't paid for a room there in two years and my offers typically include some freeplay as well.

I had a couple of friends in college that had jeeps. When you are moving its not bad, but obviously watch how much sun you are getting, its when you are stopped that it gets hot. So sitting at the long red lights or if you are sitting in traffic the sun beats down on you and the air is not moving.

Vegas on a whim...I like the sound of that! :) And you picked a mighty fine resort too.

Uh...Yes (the air hitting you when you're moving will feel like a fan inside an oven)

If you like to laugh I recommend Carrot Top or Absinthe. I laughed more at Carrot Top but Absinthe was a close second. They are both hilarious.

Thanks all. I've heard Carrot Top and Absinthe were both good so we'll see how the gambling goes and if we come across tickets. We've decided... against our best judegment, to go see Pawn Stars store since we do watch the show from time to time. We also plan to check out Red Rock Casino and Canyon...Also since we're at Encore... we are looking forward to finally trying the famed Peppermill.

Being from MPLS... I may welcome the warm heat in my face as a Jeep may be great to go see the canyon.

Even being from Minneapolis, you won't welcome 106 degree heat after a few minutes. Seriously, skip the jeep. Rent a normal car. Jeeps get horrible gas mileage, and its all highway mileage to the Grand Canyon (I assume that's what you mean by "the canyon".) And, even with a jeep, your rental contract forbids you from going off road.

Plus, if you end up with anything of value in the jeep, a soft top makes it an easy target for thieves.

To me, Vegas is a great place to be without much of a plan. Enjoy.

An open top jeep in the desert...sure...why not???

And when you go to the canyon, be sure to hike in flip flops and don't worry about taking any water with you!?!

But, before you go...look up dehydration and sun/heat stroke. You will want to be able to recognize it before it's too late.

It's a desert for crying out loud.

Yea, we just plan to drive around Red Rock Canyon and maybe stop to take in a view or two. Oddly enough all the convertibles are sold out too.. must be a bunch of other idiots like me out there.
