Costumed characters banned from strip?

Just posted on the Las Vegas Advisor website:

July 3, 2012 11:49 Vendors Banned from Strip: Clark County has passed an ordinance banning people from conducting business in a public right of way, reports the R-J. That basically puts the kibosh on the people who dress up in costume and sell photos to tourists, and other street-vendors and peddlars.

I don't mind the 'good' ones e.g. superman or the hangover guy but when I went recently the amount of rubbish hello kitty costumes and crappy poor quality ones was rediculous.

I agree with Slippeddisc, that Hello Kitty costume was hiddeous, stained up, and the Guy who wears the pink get-up is truly disgusting looking. Glad to see them gone. And the newest one, the lady with that ratty looking monkey, was another eye sore on the strip.

Sounds like it bans the water sellers but not the costumed beggars or porn slappers.

"In an attempt to crack down on these types of illegal business practices on the Strip, Clark County commissioners on Tuesday made it a misdemeanor for people to stand on sidewalks and sell bottled water, T-shirts and other items to passers-by. The ordinances won't affect handbillers who distribute fliers for adult entertainment and escort services, people who earn tips by dressing in costumes and posing for photos with tourists or street performers."

That silly First Amendment....

I like these suggestions, at least regarding the pornslappers.

"Readers suggest a holistic approach to deal with handbillers. They want immigration officials checking their legal status. They want the Internal Revenue Service checking whether handbillers and their bosses pay their taxes. They want undercover stings to prove handbillers are promoting illegal prostitution."

Many of the characters in Vegas were the unpermitted ones who were chased off of Hollywood Blvd a few years back, and are pretty much low life type which haven't showered or washed their costume in quite a while.

I don't mind most of the characters that are still here in SoCal, but some of these folks can really give a town a bad rep.
