Side Tours While in Vegas

We'll be in Las Vegas in late July for a 1 day and 2 nights (landing Thursday midday and leaving before dawn on Saturday) before we head off to raft the Colorado in the Grand Canyon for a week. Got any recommendations for interesting side trips/tours during the day? Since it's going to be beastly hot, is there something we can enjoy in "air conditioned comfort"?

As you're only in LV for 2 nights who bother with side tours - the usual Valley of Fire options are not necessary as you're on your way to the GC.

Simply explore the strip popping into those resorts that appeal to you where you will get all the air conditioned comfort you need.

If you do want to get away from LV then Hoover Dam might be an option to consider.

You don't have much time; I'd suggest spending your time exploring up and down the Strip. Don't expect to see everything, though!

As Tom said, you'll be fine A/C-wise if you hop from resort to resort walking up the strip; you'll not be outside for more than 10 minutes or so at a time.

Oops! Thanks for the quick response, but I neglected to say we did theHoover Dam tour last time we were there and have explored most of the casinos. I was thinking of things like Pink Jeep or the Mobster Museum, etc.

The Mob Museum is two blocks north of Freemont Street and is worth visiting (not sure if that would be a side tour or just one of the things you see while you are in Vegas).

I found the Mob Attraction at the Tropicana interesting. Have you seen the Auto Collection and the Imperial? Very good. How about shooting some weapons at one of the shooting ranges nearby. Sorry, cant remember their names or locations. Shooting is inside. How about a movie or bowling at the Orleans. Good luck

I would also suggest you stay on the strip and explore as many casinos as you can. Each is unique. There are plenty of attractions in/outside the casinos, more than enough to keep you busy.

The Springs Preserve isn't too far from the Strip and offers some exhibits in air conditioned comfort.
