How to get the room of your choice? How to get deals?

Hi,

I learend that if I make a reservation with the hotel directly, I just have a reservation. No room type guaranteed, not at least number of beds I ask for.

How to avoid discussions upon check-in?

How to get a room that fits my needs if everything is 'request only' and not guaranteed?

How to get the 'deals' frequently mentioned in the Forum?

I'm especially interested in mid-strip locations and would give any hint a try since travelling from Europe is expensive itself. Would appreciate advice as detailed as possible. Thanks.

Encore, Venetian, and Palazzo have rooms that guarantee 2 beds. And I believe some of the Mlife hotels are allowing this as an option, check their sites.

The hotels will do their best to honor requests, and usually can do so. Obviously being able to wait for the right type of room to open up is a big plus, and if the clerk tells you there are none available, let her know that you will wait. If they can't give you the type of room that day, tell them you would like to move tomorrow.

Many hotels list different types of rooms separately. MGM hotels list "two queen" rooms separately from "king" rooms. They also have numerous categories of rooms. If you book a "two queens renovated room", that's almost certainly what you will get. Simply book exactly the sort of room you want.

Most also list "smoking" and "non-smoking" rooms differently. Again, if you book a specific type of room, you'll almost certainly get it.

There's always a chance the hotel is oversold for some specific type of room. If you've booked directly, there's a good chance you will get a better room than what you requested.

Many of the deals people discuss are given to them because of previous gambling history.

I have noticed that i will get what i requested more often if i check in after check in time.

If you check in early you get what they give you.

Wheatie: I respectfully disagree. MGM is one of the worse in honoring room requests, both smoking/non and number of beds. I've always found it surprising that a place with 5000 rooms doesn't have the one I want. It doesn't matter how many room options they list on their site, the one you check is still only a request.

The only hotels that do not consider it a request are those that charge a different rate for two beds.
