Sons 21st b-day TR

Went to Vegas with husband and son for son's 21st. Arrived July 3rd late afternoon and got our room at the Flamingo. I was comped 5 nights and I paid $70 for extra night. Got a FAB deluxe room with a pool view. Room was very clean and suited our needs. Son doesn't turn 21 till July 5th so we decide to take him to the different casinos. First we went to Toby Keith's Bar and Grill at Harrah's. Food is very good and I'm pretty sure we got a 10% discount with our Total Rewards card. Just walking the strip was eventful for son - he started collecting the cards from the slappers. Husband decides not to gamble till son turns 21 but heck with that - they went to bed around 12:30am and I headed down to casino. No luck on slots that night.

Next day we venture to show son different casinos again. Ate breakfast at Hash House a Go Go - one of my favorite places. Husband and son went to IP car show - son loved it. I stayed at IP and played slots and lost. Walked everywhere that day and son is counting down the hours til midnight to have his first legal beer and gamble. That evening we went to the 7pm Vegas the Show at PH. It was a GREAT show - son loved every minute of it. Tickets were reasonable at $40 each at Tix for Tonight. Went back to Flamingo and crashed till about 11:30. Hurried and got cleaned up and were down at the casino at midnight. Went to the bar and had beers and shots of Jager Bombs. Got bartender to take our pic. Son is living the life now! He found a slot machine he liked and by 12:15am he hit for $300! He is thrilled. Vegas has lured him in!!!

I think the guys got back to the room at 8am the next morning. After a quick power nap we go to Harrah's and son get a $37 NUMB drink complete with 5 shots of vodka in a 2 ft. plastic glass. He's feeling no pain playing slots and wins another $300 jackpot!!

Husband took him to craps table at Flamingo - son was very nervous even though we had practiced many times at home. After 2 hrs at the table he only lost $10. Tables were $5 minimum. That night around 1am we went to Victorian Room at Bill's for the 6.99 steak and eggs special. Food was great but by now the NUMB drink is starting to really hit son and he can't even cut his steak. He leaves to go back to Flamingo. Husband and I stay out and gamble once we know son is safe in room. No luck again.

Friday morning I checked into our GO room that I had always wanted to stay in but always took the comped room instead. We got a strip view with Ceasars Palace right across the way. Son fell in love with the room and the view so husband and I gave GO room to son and his friend and we stayed in comped room. Nice thing about GO room is the mini fridge and coffee maker. We couldn't even get ice on our FAB deluxe room floor.

Friday evening son's friend flew in and after we met him at the entrance the boys disappeared till the next afternoon when we took them to Hash House A Go Go and heard about their evening drinking their way around Las Vegas. The funniest thing was my son didn't realize his sports jacket was on inside out throughout most of the evening till we looked at pictures. Husband and I gambled at slots/craps/roulette and didn't have any luck.

Saturday night we finally made it to Ellis Island for the steak dinner special with the boys. Dinner was great and so was the beer that came with it.

Boys went to Tryst Club at Encore Saturday night and had alot of fun. Husband and I noticed that every casino now had dance clubs for the younger crowd. Rest of our trip consisted of gambling and more gambling. We had some small hits here and there - $75 or $100. Flamingo has the BEST pina coladas. Never made it to the pool. It was a great time watching son enjoy Las Vegas. Hoping to go in the fall again with husband.

enjoyed your TR.

Did you hear any Linq construction noise in your room ? Especially early in the morning. Staying there in a couple of weeks. Just curious. Thanks

Zolar - we didn't hear any construction. I was worried about that too but it wasn't an issue. Enjoy your trip!

Gdalestumps - that's funny because we waited since our son was young too. It was definately worth the wait! Doing it again in 18 months when our younger son turns 21.

I wanted to also mention that son was constantly carded. It wasn't until our last evening that a security guard at the Flamingo gave him a wristband listing all Harrahs properties and saying he was 21.

Had to laugh at your son's sports coat being inside out--fun memories for him of his first legal trip to Vegas!

Nice TR but why not go to Vegas on your sons bday or the night before. When I truned 21 I went a few days after and if I had to seat around in Vegas for two days before I turned 21 I would have gone crazy.

Actually seems like a practical idea from a mother's standpoint to me. He would be familiar with layouts, ways to get back to room etc. With the excitement of turning 21 & the obvious jump into the drinking - it would be easy to become disoriented. This way at least he had his sea legs under him!!!

Love you TR. We've told our grandson that we'll take him to Vegas when he turns 21. We also took him when he was 3, 4, & 15....but 21 will be really great!! Loved it that you all got up at 11pm for the big event!!!
