Booked into Mandalay Bay next month.Getting worried...

I've been reading a lot of negative comments about Mandalay Bay and we're going there for a week next month. I've come to terms with the fact that we'll have to wait a looong time to check in and a looong time for elevators and the pool/beach area will be jam packed. And it's too far from the main area of the strip. Does anyone have anything really positive to say about this resort? Also--is it true that there's no coffee maker in the room to foritify myself with a bit of caffeine before the looonng lineup at the coffee shop in the morning? Starting to dread this a bit. I know, I should have looked here before booking.....

Did you book it directly with the hotel? I'm pretty sure you could cancel it and re-book somewhere else if so (hopefully someone will claify it).

No need for dread.

-The pool area is crowded because it's the most elaborate on the Strip; big wave pool, lazy river, assorted other pools, nice casino and food/drink at the pool... Get there early or if you want to spend an entire day, consider treating for a cabana.

-There's a good assortment of restaurants, many of which have coupons available on restaurant.com

-My favorite hamburger place is Burger Bar, in Mandalay Place

-Don't sweat location; jump in a cab and in 15 minutes you're center Strip.

Have a great trip!

Something like 2,500 people have reviewed the place and given it either an "excellent" or "very good" rating. Why get worked up about the (comparatively) few others who had an issue.

Go and enjoy.

Mandalay Bay is one of my favorite resorts, but not my fav location. It is the southern edge of the strip, so yes, a bit of a walk everywhere, but cabs are readily available & cheap.

You won't wait particularly longer for elevators than anyone else. Not for coffee, either--long lines everywhere--we all need our caffeine shot!

Yes, it is August & all pools in Vegas are busy, especially the nicest ones, like Mandalay Bay. Getting there early is the way of the world at Vegas pools in the summer.

Relax--you will enjoy your stay, promis!

Have never stayed there, but visit the casino almost every time I am in Vegas. The concerns you have will be about the same no matter where you stay, so I wouldn't worry too much. If you are renting a car, then the location is no big deal.

Mandalay Bay is connected to Luxor and Excalibur via inside walkways and a free tram. We love visiting both Mandalay Bay and Luxor each visit to take advantage of their WIN Cards in the casinos. For $20, you get $30 in non-negotiable chips to use at the tables. Very good deal. Check at the mLife desk for details when you arrive.

If you are considering seeing a show, be sure to check out Carrot Top at the Luxor. Very hilarious show!

Which week will you be there next month?

I've only seen a big queue at check in there once and that was the weekend when they had IT problems throughout the MGM hotels in June. And it was a BIG queue.

I have friends at Mandalay Bay right now and they haven't grumbled once.

Never stayed at MB but I do love the amount of great places to eat and drink, heard some great things about the pool and the rooms over the years and would live to give it a try.

I'm sure you will have a blast, enjoy your trip.

Yes it is on the South End. So what ? It's a beautiful hotel. We didn't have lineups to eat. There is a free monorail between MB and Excaliber. Which drops you at a causeway to NYNY, Tropicana and MGM. The bus costs 5$ for 24hrs (at least it did a couple of months ago.)

Go. Enjoy. Have a wonderful trip.

Stop reading reviews! Reviews are posted by people who have something to say. They are often posted by infrequent LV visitors who have no basis for comparison. EX: The fact that there are no coffee makers. The majority of Las Vegas hotels do not have coffee makers in the rooms.

If you want a more accurate view of Mandalay Bay ask on this board (which you did) but more importantly read Trip Reports of those who have stayed there. Not only will this give you an idea about the hotel from the poster POV, but it will also let you know something about the writer's likes and dislikes, so you can put their report in context.

Mandalay Bay is a GREAT HOTEL. The most elaborate pool area in town, very nice rooms 550 sq ft, with floor-to-ceiling windows a beautiful bathroom and nice furnishings, great dining choices. Everything you would expect from a Las Vegas resort. If it was on the corner of Las Vegas Blvd and Flamingo it would be one of the highest rated hotels in Las Vegas. In fact, for many it still is.

I love staying at Mandalay Bay! You'll have a great time there. Crowded like everywhere on the Strip is. Just Embrace the Chaos!!!
