It may be the only time I get to visit the Grand Canyon so is it worth the trip or should I headto a differant part of the canyon?

no. its on a indian reservation, and they over charge everything. 40 bucks to park, 40-60 a person to get to the glass look out, then if you want to go on it, another 30 a person, NO PICTURES ALLOWED!! if you want a picture another 20 bucks. If you want to see the grand canyon, spend a few extra hours heading to the south rim. Way worth the drive.

The Skywalk is part of what is known as the West Rim. It is a scenic place, but it pales in comparison to the beauty and grandeur of the National Park which is found at the South Rim. The South Rim is one of the great natural wonders of the world. The West Rim is much more of a tourist attraction, many describe it as a tourist trap. It is ridiculously expensive to go out on the skywalk and you cannot bring a camera. If this is going to be your only visit, take the time and effort to go to the National Park at the South Rim.

The overwhelming opinion on this forum and probably on the Grand Canyon forum is to miss it and take the extra hours to go to the South Rim.

You can do the South Rim in one day. Its not necessarily recommended but Ive done it and enjoyed it, albeit I was very tired by the time we got back to Vegas.

Its a 5 hour or so one way road trip to get to the South Rim. If you were to leave LV at 5am you could probably be there by 10, spend a few hours and head back. Long day, probably better if you have two drivers so you can split it.

If you feel you will only pass this way once then try and make the effort to go to the South Rim. We did and still love looking at the photos we took

I guess I am a true gambling degenerate my first thought was wow what have they added to the Gold Coast. LOL.

My friends that the tour and one did the walk . Yes it is touristy but they both loved the tour. They were gone all day.

We were in Las Vegas last week, and we drove to the South Rim.

We left LV at 5.30am, and made a couple of stops along the way. Had plenty of time at the GC, and then headed back to LV.

We did the journey with our 10 & 13 yr old boys. All of us agree it was worth the long day :)

Travel time according to our GPS was about 4.5 hrs each way.

It costs $25 to enter the Grand Canyon National Park.

As Becky mentionned, you can either rent a car and drive yourself the 4.5 to 5 hours each way to the South Rim of the Grand Canyon or you can book a day trip. You can either book a day online or once you get to Las Vegas you will easily find many individuals selling day trip to the both rims but remember you want the South Rim. If you buy from someone on the strip ask them if the price is their best price.

Another thing to keep in mind is do you want to go in a large group in a big bus or smaller vehicle like a van or jeep with less people? Just make sure you have a minimun of three hours to walk the Grand Canyon Trail as anything less will be a bit rush.
