Day 1

Our girls trip started in LA, and we drove into Vegas early Sunday morning for a 4 day/3 night stay. We stopped at the Welcome to Las Vegas sign before dropping the car off. 11am and it was lined up and plenty busy! The line to get into the parking lot stretched onto the road, and a tour bus driver layed on his horn the ENTIRE time until he could squeeze in. Not sure what that accomplished. The photographers there are fantastic at getting perfect pictures and suggesting poses. The sun was blazing and it was awesome.

Off to return our rental car - I’ve never seen a terminal for just car returns! Pretty slick. We took a cab to our hotel, the Flamingo. Asked for no tunnel, so the cab driver took the freeway. Headed inside to pick up our TR cards, then into the TR line to check in. There were still about 5 people ahead of us at 1pm, and a 30min wait. Looked a lot better than the main line however. We had booked a GO room, no view. Had a very friendly lady at check in, tried the $20 sandwich, and got a room on the 24th floor, Ballys side, with a spectacular view of the fountains. The room was clean and modern, bonus with the empty mini fridge. Beds were super comfy, and the toiletries smelled amazing! Still using the lotion!

The first thing on our list was the north Premium Outlets. Hailed a cab and spent the next four hours in shopping bliss. My friends relished in the air conditioned stores, while I couldn’t wait to go outside and warm up. Back to the hotel, cab trunk stuffed full of bags, and had a quick shower and change before heading out for dinner. Since we were up before 5am that morning, it was a short walk to the Cheesecake Factory for dinner, and we caught the Mirage Volcano and a couple of Bellagio fountain shows before heading back to the room.

Day 2

Next morning is where we discovered we had different ideas of a Vegas vacation. I’m a go go go, see everything and do everything type of person, while my two friends were looking for a relaxing couple of days and didn’t want to go home tired. Ooook, adjustments were made, plans scaled back. I was up early and went adventuring on my own, lined up for the pool, and relished in the heat until my friends joined me after 11. The pool is great. People line up around 8am for the 9am opening, the chairs are all reserved before 930, but the pool wasn’t busy at all. I’d really like to go back and see it on a weekend! Anyway, a couple more hours at the pool, and we were off to the Fashion Square Mall. I couldn’t get enough of the heat, but the friends scurried for air conditioning. Along the way we stopped at Tix for Tonight, had hoped on seeing Thunder From Down Under but it was sold out. Holly Madison’s Peepshow it was!

After a couple hours at the mall, the friends were too hot and too tired to walk to PH to get our seats assigned for the show, so cab it was. From here we walked back to the Flamingo, stopping at Sugar Factory for an afternoon sweet treat (I’d love to go back and try the restaurant side). I put on my best sparkle and headed to Holstein’s for dinner before Peepshow. Found the life size shoe in the Cosmo lobby, and stared in awe at the chandelier sparkle. I would love to stay here on a future trip! We were very overdressed for the group of people in there, but it’s Vegas, I’m wearing sparkle wherever and whenever I can! I ordered some sort of bubblegum watermelon slushy drink, complete with cotton candy on top, and a Nom Nom burger. Delicious. I’d go back in a heartbeat.

Headed to Peepshow, which was….interesting. The show was fantastic, but seeing Holly pregnant was weird. She’s scheduled to perform until Dec 30 - not sure I’d want to see that last show. Odd. I really wanted to try the Secret Pizza place after, but friends were too hot and too tired (recurring theme lol) so back to the Flamingo it was.

Day 3

Tuesday morning was rinse and repeat - I closet gambled at the slots, headed to the pool, friends came down after 11, headed to the Forum Shops for the afternoon. Big dinner plans tonight - Gordon Ramsay Steak. Friends are huge Ramsay fans, I don’t watch any of his shows. We made reservations a couple weeks before our trip. Again, dressed in my best sparkle, we headed down to Paris. Had some time for a ride up the Eifel Tower, and caught a fountain show while we were up there. Stunning view!! Back down for dinner, and were only a couple minutes late for our 730pm reservation. We waited about 20min to be seated in a booth facing the kitchen. Friends were giddy and thought it was the best seat in the house, and must have been because we made early reservations! I struggled to find the same excitement. Drinks menu provided on an iPad, and the meat slab was presented to show the different cuts. Friends both had starters (heirloom tomato salad for one, asparagus soup for the other) and they raved about them. I tried the bread platter, it was ok. For the main, they had the Wellington for two. My first choice was the skirt steak, but our waiter indicated it was very difficult to cook and I should really try the rib cap. Ordered the fingerling potatoes for my side. Our mains arrived and while the girls gushed, I was under whelmed. Tried some of the Wellington and I found it quite salty. I didn’t finish all my steak as I ran into a lot of gristle. I didn’t taste anything special about the Kobe beef, but I know I’m spoiled with our Alberta beef back home. We didn’t get dessert, and the total was just over $300 with tip (including 2 $9 bottles of water!). Definitely a popular spot for Ramsay fans, lots of people taking pictures, and the waiters even point out “signature’ dishes featured on his shows. The friends are already planning their return, I wouldn’t go back.

We were supposed to go down to Fremont Street after dinner, but one of the girls wasn’t feeling well, so back to the hotel.

Day 4

Wednesday morning, our last full day in Vegas. Repeat of the other mornings, and then we headed to Fremont in the day. One of the girls husbands is a Pawn Stars fan and he wanted something from the Toy Shack. It doesn’t look like much during the day, so I can’t wait to go back and experience the party at night! I tried to convince the girls to zip over to the DSW for some last chance shoe shopping (if I could have one US store come to Canada, this would be it!) but no dice. Back to the Flamingo. We had some time to feed the slots a bit before heading to the airport for our 9pm flight home. Flew WestJet out of Terminal 3 - not a lot to eat there! The restaurant we stopped at (can’t remember the name) was sold out of everything I wanted on the menu. Sad! Picked the right side of the plane to sit on and got some fabulous shots of the strip as we reluctantly flew home.

A couple observations:

- There are stairs in between most escalators at the pedestrian crossings. We didn’t see people on them. Ever.

- The friends were overwhelmed and over stimulated with all the lights and action - I loved it!!

- Holy cow everything inside is cold! Casinos, restaurants, malls…I couldn’t wait to get outside and warm up again!

There were so many things I didn’t get to see - hardly went inside any hotels, missed out on a lot of night action, good eats and shows. I can’t wait to get back and experience the rest!

Sounds like you didn't get to do and see a lot of things you would have liked to. For me that would be a bummer and one of the reasons I would prefer not to travel with another group as we may have different ideas of what a 'vacation' is.

Still, hope you had a great time. Maybe you should try a solo trip????

Oh my. How frustrating for you. I hope you can go again with the right people! I can't believe you had to "closet" gamble in Las Vegas!!!

Safe travels.

Sounds like you had a nice stay at the Flamingo, I am staying there a week from tomorrow

When you said no tunnel and the cab driver took the freeway, I thought the free was a long haul way of going, now I am confused

If you had a rental car why did you return it before needing cabs? FYI, no need to request "no tunnel" from the rental car return.
