What do you think about the Rio? Rooms? Pool? Price? Food? Free shuttle?
Shuttles are great and run often and fast and the bus drivers are entertaining.
Rio rooms are great. Very large, a duel bathroom area, large closet, safe, living room and bedroom, microwave, 2 fridges, one wall is all glass for a great view on the higher floors, desk area. Yes some will say the furniture is a bit aged but the rooms are clean and neat.
Food is good. One of the better buffets, buger bar, American grill and VP bar, seafood place and wine room to name a few. I have eaten at 3 of their places and no complaint.
Easy walk to Palms and Gold Coast and 10 minute ride on free shuttles to Harrah's or Bally's.
You can't go wrong. You will heard some give some bad reports of this place but I have been hear many times and it's always great.
Have fun and enjoy Vegas!
I stayed there on my last trip and enjoyed my room there. We went to gold coast for a cheap breakfast buffet and used the shuttle. The Pool area was nice.
Here is a good overview of the Rio. See:
Javyjoy, you have to choose what is going to work for you, not based on what everyone else thinks. In my opinion, it would add to your agonizing task of making a decision.
Just like flavors of ice cream-chocolate, strawberry, and vanilla everyone likes something different. Everyone has different standards and tastes.
I like the Rio. I stayed in the basic suite. It was well, basic. Being from Florida, the pool wasn't a priority but it was nice but needed a little attention. There are many food choices, not too crazy about the buffet. The free shuttle is very reliable. I sign up for specials via earlyvegas.com. Here is the promotion that was emailed to me recently:

There's also a Keurig coffee maker in every room. Bring your own pods from home. From the pay mini-bar the coffee pods are 3 for $8.00. Ouch. From the gift shop you can buy pods for 99 cents. The half lb hamburgers at the sports bar are $6.99. Free wi-fi @ Burger King upstairs. The Ipanema Tower has flat screen TVs & are quieter. Get a slot club card. They're very liberal w their free rooms. We're very low rollers & have stayed 3 times this year for free for 5 nights each stay.
The rooms were nice when we were there, although they are a little tired. Also, when we booked we were asked if we wanted a king or two queens. We really wanted a king and surprise! we were issued 2 queens with them stating there were no kings available. Why bother to ask in the first place?
Also, try not to get a room around the back side unless it is very high up or you will be woken every morning by the garbage men/trucks.
We really liked the room, pools and shuttle to the strip. The buffet is very good but pricey. Coffee shop prices on the high side, too. Gambling is not very good there, bad blackjack (6/5) and poor v/p. The good thing is they are right next down to the Gold Coast, better gambling opportunities and cheaper food choices. They don't have a resort fee, but if you want early check in it's $15 and a room with a view is $20. We didn't go with the view and had a 4th floor room overlooking the HVAC equipment. I would stay there again if the pool is open, but I'd rather stay on the strip if it's not pool weather.
Shuttles are a waste of time on the weekends. Big lines, packed in. I just taxi'd over to TI for $15 and it was well worth it. As for the rooms, the one I had still had the old school tv, and worn carpet, just like most Harrah's rooms, plain and functional.
I didn't stay there but shuttled over to check it out. The shuttle trip took about 40 mins total with waiting, and it was really hot. I cabbed back for $7. I didn't like their casino much, though couldn't say why. If you don't mind being off-strip or don't mind the shuttle, then no problem. The seafood buffet was GREAT though! Def worth a trip over at least for that.
