staying on honeymoon this november, any room upgrade tips?

Me and my soon to be wife are going to be flying in to Vegas for our honeymoon on the 8th of November, and are staying at cosmopolitan. The virgin rep advised us that in Vegas, couples on honeymoon will usually get a free room upgrade. We have already paid for one upgrade to stay in a fountain view studio suite. Is it likely that we might get a further upgrade to a terrace suite or wraparound terrace? Do we have to heavily tip the check in staff and tell them we are on honeymoon

The Virgin rep advised you incorrectly.

Every day thousands of people are in Vegas to get married, divorced, celebrate a honeymoon, birthday, anniversary, or other special occasion.

You might receive an upgrade simply by mentioning your honeymoon. If so, tip the clerk. Any attempt at the supposed "trick" is not for me, others will chime in how wonderful this works (most have no way to know if it was the $).

Pay for the room you want if it is important.

Congratulations.

Thanks for your reply. I'm also not convinced by any tricks, and will happily pay for a worthwhile upgrade if the price is right and its worth the money. As mentioned we have already paid to upgrade from a standard room, and paid again for a fountain view from our room.

The wraparound terrace looks like an excellent room and if I can get if for less than say 700 dollars extra for the week, I'll definitely do it.

I would have thought the time of year we are travelling (8th november) is a quieter time for Vegas so a room upgrade, or heavily discounted upgrade would be more likely than if travelling during peak season

Thanks again

I recently stayed in vegas and it was our anniversary. After booking a room I emailed guest relations and told them about our anniversary and asked if there would be any upgrades available to make the visit extra special. I didn't mention free or paid.

The reply gave us a free upgrade by about 4 classes from a really sweet employee.

Try it...you can always try again once at the hotel if nothing happens.

Lucy - you might share the name of the property that made this amazing accommodation. A 4 class upgrade based purely on an e-mail is rare, others would likely want to jump on this.

I certainly will - but I can hear the comments now lol!!

The hotel was circus circus. Booked a manor motor lodge and was upgraded to a casino tower mini suite.

Before everyone complains about CC. It was spotlessly clean and I should say that was got free buffet passes too...must admit that I wouldn't have had breakfast there else lol. The food is pretty basic, but the rooms are huge with 40" LCD Samsung TVs.

hi, i've stayed in vegas before and tipped $30 at the checkin desk, got an upgrade to the top floor of the mirage. i'm going back for my honeymoon next year and we've booked the cosmopolitan one bed fountain view, so let me know how you get on, i'd try both ways above, as they can always just say no , so theres no harm done, checkin desk staff wanna earn tips like the everyone else who works in vegas! so pop it in your passport and when asked for it they will either accept it or give it you back. also have a good trip! We mentioned we were getting married the next day at check in at the flamingo and they upgraded us to a suite that my wife was happy with HOWEVER I am sure they just did that because people do not book suites much at the flamingo and my wife is easy to please. I am sure a go room would of looked nicer however my wife liked the extra space

Ian

I'll let you know how we get on and re post on this thread when we get back. I've tried the money in passport trick a couple of times before. One time it worked - new York new York, one time it didn't - lv Hilton (or whatever its calling itself these days)

We have already paid for a great room, so getting an upgrade isn't essential. But given the time of year we are going, I will certainly try to get a discounted rate to upgrade to a wraparound suite

Alan -

We recently stayed in the Cosmo (only for 1 night) as part of our honeymoon and we bloody loved it.

Personally, I would pay now for the room I really wanted to avoid disapointment. Saying that, I see you have booked a one bed room terrace so I don't think there is any chance of that.

Have an amazing time!
