Comp is what a casino will give you for FREE depending on your play in the casino. The more you play the better the comp is like Free meals, rooms & sometimes shows.

Oh ok, so if you play big you can even get free hotel accommodation too just like a few posts I read. Thanks for educating me on this stuff. Well be traveling to Vegas on dec 7-10 and I'm into reading forums about Vegas to learn more before our travel date :)

Comp is short for complimentary.

Do not for a second think any of these are FREE. If most players kept an accurate log and realized how much these FREE comps were costing they might understand the meaning of the word FREE.

Anything from a cocktail while gambling to private flights are available in the comp world. Your gambling determines your comps.

The best thing you can do is talk to the player's club/host at your property, they will explain the system and help you understand the basics.

You can read some posts here and on other forums. Be aware that many posters spew misinformation, have no idea of their gambling theo are basically clueless when it comes to gambling.

There's no question that comps aren't really "free" but if you are going to go anyway it's nice to have rooms etc comped.

If you go, sign up for a player's card at your casino (or several casinos) and use it while gambling. You might be surprised that it doesn't take thousands of dollars of play to get offers from a casino. Just don't base your play on chasing comps.

I was thinking what Losvu wrote. A free room sounds great, but many of the casino's rates can be $50. Say, you only give the casino $500 gambling. They make $450.

If you are planning on returning in the future and you will be gambling anyway. get players cards at all the properties you visit and the concentrate your play at one or two of them.

The main strip properties are Caesars Entertainment (CET) and MGM Properties (MLife) There are tons of threads you can search for lots of info on this topic.

I too agree that no one should chase comps, but if you are going to gamble anyway then it would be pretty silly not to maximize your return with complimentaries since the chances are slim to none that you will recoup anything at the machines ;)
