Red Rock Canyon or Valley of Fire

As a first time visitor, if you could only visit one place, which would you choose, Red Rock or VOF? DH and I are looking for a day trip that will provide awesome scenery as well as some light hiking trails. Wildlife sightings would be a plus. Which would you choose and why? If it matters, we will have our own car. I have read lots about each place, but would like some first hand opinions. Thanks!

Been to both. Love both. VOF has an edge for overall beauty, IMO. We did see a wild mustang during one visit to VOF and saw Big Horn Sheep on the way. Don't recall the exact location. Not sure why you can't do both if you have your own car, but do VOF if that is your limit.

Red Rock is on my bucket list.....but we went to Hoover Dam and Valley of Fire earlier this year and really enjoyed it. It did take most of the day but was well worth it.

Unfortunately we were not wearing the proper footwear so really didn't get to hike a lot of the trails but we do intend to go back one day and see what we missed.

My family and I went to VOF a couple years ago during the summer. HOT like you couldn't believe! With that said, we really enjoyed it a lot! There's a lot of places that you can get out and take in the sites and beauty. There are also some hiking trails. We took a very interesting one in which you basically walk between two walls of rock. On one of the walls there were literally hundreds of petroglyphs. They were AMAZING! The hike was flat and easy, though a bit sandy in places. As long as you wear sneakers, you'd have no problems. How often do you see a huge wall of petroglyphs? Add some fantastic beauty and you can't go wrong. I've never been to Red Rocks so I can't compare the two.

Valley of Fire. I like the scenery better plus the variety of things to see.

We did both in one day. We only drove the 13 mile loop at Red Rock and then headed to VOF and did some hiking. If for some reason you only want to choose one then I too say VOF is the one.

Valley of Fire - White Domes Trail and Mouses Tank are easy light hikes. Do both.
