First Time in Las Vegas

Hi Everyone

Please give me some advice.... will be in vegas for four days from 9 December and i have no clue what the must see tourist spots are please help!!

So far i would like to go to the stratosphere hotel for the rollercoaster ride and obviously to the strip. Was also thinking of doing a helicopter tour to the South rim. Can anyone recommend any good companys to book tours etc??

Thanks

Lauren, check out the Top Questions and Itineraries on the right hand side of this page and the Things To Do and Restaurants on the left. Read through as many forum threads as you can. Google 'Things to do in Las Vegas'. And grab a couple of travel guides from the library and read them when you're in the bath or bed.

Once you've done all that you'll be knackered (!) but you will have a lot more information on what there is to do.

And then you can come back here and ask much more specific, tailored questions that will allow you to finalise (to the extent you need to in a city like Las Vegas) your plans.

Better get started, though, because you're trip's not that far off. Exciting!

Get a map of The Strip (Las Vegas Boulevard) as soon as possible before you depart.

I do not know where you will be staying, but the Stratosphere is on the north Strip. The area between the Stratosphere to the southern / middle Strip is a bit desolated. So be prepared to transport from the Stratosphere.

The map of the Strip will help you locate the nice huge themed hotel casinos, from that you can focus your visit based on what you like.

Have fun!

The Upper level of the Venetian, shops, shows, restaurants and Gondola ride.

Check out the shops at Planet Hollywood Hotel.

The Sirens show at Treasure Island.

City Center

Downtown light show if you have time, go at night

Lake of Dreams Show

Check out the Big name Hotels, Wynn, Bellagio, Caesars, Palazzo, Encore, MGM, Mirage, Venetian and Mandalay Bay

Other things to do if you have time.

Go for drinks at MIX located at THEHotel, go in early evening.

Have a drink atop the Stratosphere Tower at sunset.

Drinks at Mandarin bar.

Of course this is just a small list but it will introduce you to the sights and sounds of LV.

Most importantly do NOT over plan. Give yourself room to go with the flow and try to absorb it all. (which is impossible in a good way)

First of all, plan on using the Las Vegas monorail a lot. It runs between all the big hotels and will save you tons of walking time. The 3-day unlimited pass ($28) is a great bargain. Many of the must-sees in town are actually free, and I've just posted a list of them here if you want to take a look:

Unless your going from one end of the strip to the other or to the convention Cntr the monorail is not worth the time or effort.

Here is one post describing it, there are many more like this.

You will have fun. Check the weather before you come. Bring comfortable shoes. You will do lots of walking. Get a travel book about Vegas Frommer or Fodor.

I agree with Ty re: Monorail. On your first trip I would certainly try the monorail. It does provide good transportation in some cases and is fun to do just to try it. Have fun.

Agree with thediceman except for the siren show at TI. You can skip it if you don't have the time.
