Treasure Island versus Mirage dilemma !!

Hi,

Im going to Las Vegas in January 2013 for my 4th time ;-)

The last time I stayed at the Mirage. Which I really liked.

I've booked Treasure Island this time however, for charge of approx £100 I could now change to Mirage....

Not sure what to do... anyone stayed in both hotels and can advise me ?

Think It would be nice to stay at different hotel but then really enjoyed the Mirage. Thanks !

It depends on how many nights you are staying. I don't think it's worth $160 extra for one night! If it's a week then yeah, definitely change up.

Mirage is generally the better property, has a more central location, better pool, better restaurant choices, and is often higher priced. Another big plus is that Mirage is part of MGM and if you gamble at Mirage with your Mlife cards you may receive offers from other MGM properties for you to try out next time, although I've found TI to be much more generous in comps.

I've stayed at both quite a few times and would pick Mirage every time if it was the same price. Unfortunately, Mirage sometimes has crazy pricing and I've stayed at TI in the past because of it. There's not much separating Mirage and TI in terms of the room. They are about the same size. Mirage's room has a brighter decor while TI has much darker tones. TI is usually a very good value but I'm not a fan of their casino as I found their property to be depressing and TI, last I went, had the annoying habit of having housekeeping knock on your door sometime between 12-2pm. It made no sense to me.

Honestly, you're not missing much by not trying TI. But if TI is the cheaper option, I say go for it. If you are interested in another hotel, do you have other choices?

Thanks VegasHowie, very helpful information !

I really like the location of the Mirage /Treasure Island hotels and these hotels are more within my budget this trip.

We have stayed in TI and really liked the rooms, the bed was so comfy, felt like I was sleeping on a cloud.

It does not matter about the pools as you are going in January.

As a previous post mentioned if you are a member of MLife and want to accumulate points and receive comps etc, then go for the mirage. If not, try TI.

Have you looked at the unlisted deals on smartervegas?

Mirage built TI as a second hotel back in the day. That's part of the reason they are connected by a tram. Mirage generally exceeds TI in every way, as they weren't built to attract the same type of customer. So for a 100 of your English Pounds spread over 7 days, I'd make the switch.

In Spring or Fall we would choose Mirage over TI, but that is strictly for the pool. However we will not stay in a standard (deluxe) room at Mirage, as these rooms do not present any value for the price. So if we stay at Mirage it would only be in a suite.

Any other time of the year, including January, we would choose TI. The location is slightly bettter for us, as we spend very little time center Strip, but that is a minor point. The Strip View at TI is amazing. The rooms are on the small side, but very comfortable. Dining options are decent, with many options we like nearby.

For us the most important difference is in the casino. TI has the best VP on the Strip, much better than Mirage. So if we stay at Mirage we have to go to TI to play VP anyway. They also have tables with lower limits, especially on weekends. And in the Winter we spend more time in the casino that other times of the year. So for us TI is the easy choice.

I would spend the extra money and upgrade to the Mirage (since it is only $160 over 7 nights).

Thanks for the advice!

When I booked Treasure Island I thought It would be nice to stay/experience a different hotel in Vegas... more so, than saving on the price between the hotels.

However, loved the Mirage when I stayed there previously so I will weigh up the pros & cons now!

any other advice appreciated !
