TR-Power Weekend

My first trip report but will try and keep it short. If you have any questions fire away.

Took the late flight from ORD to LAS on Friday November 30th. Was surprised to see so many people on the plane that were going to run the Marathon on Sunday know wonder the flight was SO full. Landed on time and took the shuttle to the rental car center. Thats were the fun started. I arrived to the rental counter about 15 mins earlier than my reservation and the sign at the Advantage counter said they had cars available. I had reserved a Intermediate car size and when I got there the lady tried to give me a compact car. I had no problem with that but I wanted the price to be reduced to reflect the class difference in car. She then replies with a $5 discount and I sort of laughed and said you better take more off than that. She then want back into the computer. While I was waiting a gentleman and his wife walked up to the counter to get a car with no reservation and was told they were out of cars but they did have a sign up saying they did have cars. I swear these car rental places take reservation and they dont keep cars for you. Anyways about 15 minutes later I'm starting to get upset and ask why there are no cars? She walks away and talks to a manager and comes back with I only have a convertible available is that OK? I respond with its ok for the same price I reserved the Intermediate car for and she says yes so off I go.

I drive to where I will be staying for my power weekend Red Rocks Casino. The drive was about 20 Mins from the rental center with no traffic and pull up to the Valet at the casino. Walk in to check in and boom no wait at all get my room key and up to the room in less than 5 mins. TIP: If you have problems walking get a room close to the elevators because the hallway is long. I have no problem walking and its a good think because my room is almost to the end of the hallway. Walk into the room and was blown away on how nice and big the room was. King size bed, a couple of comfy chairs, desk and a view of the strip in the distance. Make my way to the bathroom and see a stand alone shower and separate tub with a TV above it., Two sinks with all the shower and soaps you would expect in a hotel room. The toilet is located in a little room within the bathroom with its own separate door. Very impressed with the overall condition of the room and everything at Red Rocks. I was so hungry at this point so I walked downstairs to the Food Court they have alot like most mall food courts. Get a Fatburger sit down and enjoy my meal. I called it a early night because of the time zone difference and having to be up early to register for the craps tourney.

Day 2

Wake up somehow on time and go to register for the craps tourney. That was the whole reason for the trip to Vegas this time. Check in and off to get some lunch. Go to valet and pick up the car got the quickest route to the strip and off I go. My plan was to go to Mon Ami Gabi at the Paris Casino to get a late breakfast. Get there and the place was PACKED. I really wanted to eat outside on the patio but the wait was 45 mins and I was way to hungry to wait that long so I eat inside and just missed breakfast. Lunch it was than and had a salad and a couple of drinks. Pay the bill and decided I would take a walk over to Bellagio to see how they set up for Christmas. I was surprised by all the costume people on the strip way more than last time I walked the strip. Walked through Bellagio and enjoyed all the decorations they had setup and walked back out side and caught a fountain show but this time was different. They pumped what looked like a bunch of dry ice steam out before the show which was new to me and I have seen this show so many times. Back to Paris to get the car and head back to Red Rocks. Getting out of the Paris valet is a mess. Getting back on the strip is so hard even with the traffic light. They should post someone down there to stop idiots walking against the light so cars can get out of there. Back to Red Rocks and the start of the tourney. I make it to round two on Sunday so its time for some dinner. Get cleaned up and off to my one of my favorite places to eat the Cheesecake Factory inside of Caesars Palace. No problem getting to Caesars but the place was a MAD house. I pull up to Forum valet and I'm told they are filled up and was told to self park. No problem but the self park lot was PACKED as well. That whole place is a madhouse from parking to casino. Finally make my way to Cheesecake and I am not disappointed. Great meal and great service and great prices for Vegas if you ask me. After dinner I want to get the hell out of Caesars ASAP and off I go to Walmart for some water and drinks for the room. Get back to Red Rocks and play some poker and call it a night.

Day 3

Wake up early and to make some football bets in and let me tell you the Sports book was PACKED. The line wrapped around the sports book and through part of the casino. I do get my bets and off to play a little craps. After that to the room to clean up before lunch. I decided to eat at the LBS burger inside of the Casino which was very good for a higher end burger joint. Better than BLT at Mirage which I ate at 2 months earlier and at the same price point. Next was round two of the craps tourney. This round wasn't so good for me and I was knocked out. Oh well had a good time with it and hell it was free. Up to the room for a quick nap and then off to dinner. Dinner was nothing special a asian place outside the casino. Can't remember the name so not great and not bad but when your hungry anything will do. Back to Red Rocks to play some cards.

Day 4 Check Out

Check out time at Red Rocks is at 11am which is pretty normal for Vegas. Get all packed up and check the room to make sure nothing is left behind. Get downstairs to check out and once again no line a counter. Check out less than 2 mins and off I go to valet to get the car. Ask valet about the closest In and Out burger and proceed to go there for lunch. Never a bad meal at In and Out. Get the Double Double meal and catch up on some emails and stuff. Since I have some time to kill before my flight I take a drive out to the M Resort near Henderson. I really like the look of this place and would like to stay there sometime soon for a night or two. Kill an hour or two here and decided I need to get a meal before the airport so I go to Buca di Beppo on Flamingo for a late lunch. Get there and get some food which is always great. Big portions and very tasty and very quick service. Next up fill the car up and return the car to the rental center. No big surprises when dropping the car off. That is always nice and catch the shuttle to the airport. Through security in no time and off to the gate. Use some free WIFI and wait for the plane to take off. Plane leaves late but other than that a smooth flight home.

Other notes:

*Not sure how to fix but the Pan Handlers on the strip are EVERYWHERE now.

*Caesars Palace may be in a great location but cant see myseld staying there

*Weather seems always great

*Rental companies that over rent there cars and push there insurance

*I love Vegas!

This TR ended up longer than I thought it would be so I hope it helped you out. Any questions just ask.

I'm curious how those craps tournaments work. Do you receive a set amount of chips, and just see who lasts the longest? Also, how did you do on the craps tables when not playing in the tournament? I agree with you about the panhandlers/characters on the strip now. Just waaaay too many. Overall, sounds like you had a great trip.....13 days to go for me. Thanmks again.

I was there this past week also, and in all my years going to the Strip, you are right - the panhandlers were absolutely everywhere; more abundent, more noticeable than ever before. Homelessness, addiction, and mental illness have always been with us, just stating that it was more prevalent on the Strip this time than in past.

The craps tourney worked this way. You are giving 3k in play tournament chips and you are told the top 4 from the table will advance to round 2. 15 rolls for the whole table in total and then done. So one person may throw the dice or 5 you never know how it will work out. Betting is also done in order unlike a normal craps game. You may bet on the whole board but HOP bets are not allowed. If you advance to round two only 2 people from the table make it to the final table. My thoughts on the tournament were it was fun but moved way slower than a real craps game. Would try another tournament if invited and free.

As for real money craps it seemed I never ran into a hot table. I played at Red Rocks, M Resort, and Bellagio and never say anyone hit more than 2 points. Not even a lot of numbers being thrown around. I think I saw the most 2, 3, 11, and 12's ever in my life. My last trip in October was way better for craps it seemed like all the casinos switched the dice to duds.

I would love to know how you got from the rental car center to Red Rocks in 20 minutes. Seems it always takes us minimum 30-40 with all the traffic lights. Thanks for the review. A busy, whirlwind trip, huh?

There is a Cheesecake Factory out near Red Rocks no need to go to the strip.

I enjoyed the read, Buca di Beppo is a nice different experience, we have one here as well, my husband wants to dine in the kitchen, of which you can do. I'm glad you seemed to have had a good time while in vegas. Thank you for the trip report
