Flamingo or Excalibur. First timer.

I`m flying from Norway to Las Vegas for the first time in February. I`m 32 and going on a solotrip for 16 days. I have already booked Excalibur as a package with the flight.

Lately I`ve been looking at the Flamingo Go rooms. I know that the widescreen rooms at excalibur is also supposed to be nice.

My question is what hotel will give me the best Vegas experience\atmosphere? Should I cancel Excalibur and book Flamingo instead? The slight difference in price is not an issue.

I`ve been searching for similar thrads in this forum, and the responses are very mixed. Hope someone can give me an objective answer:)

The Excalibur is quite far down one end of the Strip. I personally love it round that area (you are in close vicinity to New York New York, MGM, Mandalay Bay etc) but you are about a 30 minute stroll to the centre of the strip.

I've read bad reports of the Flamingo. I can't personally comment on the state of the rooms as I've never stayed there. Perhaps if you tell people your nightly budget, they could give you better options?

First trip, I would say Go with Flamingo. The widescreen rooms at Excalibur are nice, nothing special, but the casino itself leaves a LOT to be desired. To me, it's possibly my least favorite property on the strip. Lots of kids running around, feels messy and dirty whenever I'm there, no appealing dining options.

The Go room at Flamingo is nice, and the casino is good. It's nothing extraordinary, but I would definitely put the property above Excalibur. Of course, being your first trip, wherever you stay, you'll be out and about exploring other properties. That is a bit easier to do from Flamingo, just because it's easier in and out. Getting from Excalibur out to the strip can be a bit laborious due to the layout.

First trip, go with Flamingo.

I've never stayed in either hotel so can't comment on the rooms.

However Flamingo has a far better location for the first time visitor in terms of exploring the main parts of the strip - staying at Excalibur means you'll spend a good amount of time walking to other areas or spend money on cabs.

For a 16 day stay your best option is to split your time over 2 or even 3 hotels - you could consider staying downtown for the weekend as it will be cheaper than most strip hotels.

Just returned from the Exc. Everything was great. It is on the South end of the strip and it is a long walk to the strip. Ive stayed all over and just wanted to do the South end this time. I stayed in Tower II. No problem with kids, clean large room, good food court, good cocktail service and overall great experience. Not a lot of restaurants but very near a ton of other choices at MGM,NYNY,etc. I know you wouldnt go wrong with the Exc. but would go with Flamingo because of the central location. Have fun. By the way,the construction in that area was not a problem in any way. A little noisy in the Imperial but I like the fun vibe there so it was easily ignored.

Both are low end hotels, the Excalibur would be the bettter all around hotel but the Flam would get my recommendation for first timer due to its Location.

I'd have to go with flamingo of those two as well because if location. I've for nothing against Excalibur. Have stayed there and it's fine, but mid strip is nice for first time. However u do have 16 days so lots if time to get here and there to explore

"For a 16 day stay your best option is to split your time over 2 or even 3 hotels "

A very subjective recommendation. I personally am not a fan of splitting stays, and certainly not to THREE hotels. I would much prefer to settle in one place and explore from there. The thought of checking in three times, unpacking three times, packing three times, checking out three times.... So not an appealing prospect for a vacation!

I've not stayed at Flamingo but have stayed at Excalibur. The pros staying here is cheap you are close to NYNY MGM and Paris if you like chicken wings Hooters is about a 5 minute walk and Tropicanna across the road, To pick up the Deuce bus you walk across the street and there are not alot of people when you get on the bus if you choose to use that route instead of cabbing. The cons dirty very smoky far end of strip.

Flamingo pros middle of the strip better property than Excal lots of action happening around. If you get on the Deuce its usually packed and have to wait for another bus (experienced this in March a lot)

I've stayed at both - would wholeheartedly recommend Flamingo between the two. Neither hotel has outstandingly nice rooms, so it comes down to location. Middle of the Strip - best location, IMHO.
