Phat Pack

Has anyone seen the new show at the Plaza, The Phat Pack. It's a group of guys who sing. They've all done shows in Las Vegas before. Like Phantom and Forever Plaid to name a couple. Sounds good. Just wondered if anyone has seen it, yet.

Well, I guess no one has seen it! I ordered some tickets for late December. I'll let you know how it is.

Is it just me, or is the name very unappealing?

A marketing dud, perhaps - the show seems interesting and they obviously have loads of talent - and I will probably go soon if the deal is right - but I think it desperately needs a new name.

I agree that the name in unappealing. I read where it is a little play on words. The men had work together in Phantom. People who like that show are sometimes called Phantom Phans. It's also a little bit of a tribute to the Rat Pack. Just doesn't quite work. Maybe the show will take off, and they can call themselves something else.

The Phat Pack has made a lot of guest appearances on the Dennis Bono Show which airs on 104.7 FM (KJUL) from the Southpoint Casino in Las Vegas. If you tune in to that station on Sunday's at 7PM (PST) via internet you may get to hear a sampling of their music during the one hour show. I think they are pretty good. They aren't on every week but various acts from around town visit to help promote their shows. You can attend the show free at the Southpoint on Thursday's at 2PM by picking up free show tickets before the show (starting Wednesday's until tickets are gone) at the Soutpoint Box Office. One free ticket per player card. The stub is good for a free well drink after the show.

We saw the Phat Pack last Friday night and have to give it a thumbs down. They obviously have talent but they need to go back to the drawing board if they want to succeed.

It is everything a a person could hate about a broadway show without any of the good stuff. They need some more lighthearted and fun tunes as everything they sing is sad and depressing. Make'em laugh it ain't. After walking through the Plaza the crowd needs something uplifting but this show just piles the depression on thick.

They also overdo the family album pictures as though anyone cares about seeing them when they were younger. Sure, that works for Donny and Marie but even Terry Fator only uses a picture or two - these guys revolve their whole show around a past limited glory and the whole act seems a bit desperate.

Go see Frankie Moreno at the Stratosphere for a much better show.
