End-Jan weather and how to dress for temp without overpackin

We're a 60+ couple heading to LV from UK 18-28 Jan for the Builder Show 22nd-24th plus winter-break days either side. Second time in Town, first was 6 years ago for 10 days and we loved it.

I'm picking up some fabulous tips ready now from this amazing forum which I didn't look in to before, and I have a couple of questions along the way but see that it is preferred just to ask about one topic at a time for easiest answering.

This question is just about weather/temperature/daylight.

It was August the time we were there before, and therefore slightly warm :). I have googled the numbers so am aware what temperatures are likely in the last half of this month, but we would very much welcome knowledgeable advice on how this translates in weather-terms and what is the best way to pack for it - trying to pack as light as possible.

Presumably forget shorts and too-light garments, wear a couple of layers that can be added/removed? Do we need jackets/coats? That would make a big difference to packing right there!

But we're still not packing umbrellas, even though last trip in the time it took us to walk past the Bellagio/Fountains frontage on the very first night we got totally drowned in the heaviest warmest rain storm! Lol

Thanks!

I do layers....a t shirt with a cotton/jacket sweater usually is warm enough for me during the day. I wear a light fleece jacket with a hood on the plane, and have that available for evening/nights.

WIGambler has it about right, but I also always have one of those big scarves with me all the time. It can function as a pillow on the plane/car and handy when it gets too cool somewhere. I will say that I find the casinos to be too warm in the winter so need less layers if we are staying inside. You prob won't need the umbrella but it's not out of the question.

When I was there that time of year it absolutely tipped it down, the strip was flooded. So I recommend a rain jacket, perhaps a lightweight pacamac type thing to thrown on over layers.

Hayes - Have a GREAT time, and if you are back before the 18th when we leave (from Elmdon International!) let me know what we need to pack :)

Laketime - Thanks for the confirmation, and I was already mentally starting to assemble what seemed indicated, and I had thrown in exactly such a scarf I have which I use that same way in High-Summer here! English-weather joke, except it isn't a joke, lol

Thanks K30, a good suggestion and noted ... the time we got absolutely drenched inside a hundred yards or so it seemed like every one of the Bellagio's fountains had been aimed right at us!

Its unpredictable that time of year. Plan for variation and dress in layers. Check the weather shortly before you leave, but for 10 day trips, weather may be different at the end:

The good news is that there is plenty of shopping. So, if the weather is unexpectedly cool or warm - let's go shopping!

It's too early to know. Many times in January visitors wear shorts.

Right before you leave check the forecast & pack accordingly. An outer layer that has zip out linings, sleeves usually works well. I pack for weeks in a carry-on. Versatile pieces in the same color family work well.

The temperature changes constantly throughout the day in January. I would bring short sleeved shirts, zip up sweatshirts or jackets you can easily take off or put on, as well as a winter jacket. Temperatures can range from 30-60 degrees in a 24 hour period.

It rains more in Las Vegas in August than it does in January. Don't worry about rain, what you have to prepare for is cold. You have to bring some clothes to withstand the cold. If the weather is warmer, you will still be alright in slightly hjeavier clothes. But if you bring clothes that are too light you will be uncomfortable when it is cold. And it will be COLD at night.

I had to step out for a couple of hours, so thank you for the additional input waiting just now and I think we can get properly organised now ... such helpful people, all!
