Circus Circus or Excalibur

We've been to CC twice and quite like it, but we are planning to go to Vegas again this year and wondered what the Excalibur is like?

I visited it last year for a look and thought it didn't seem to have much going on, but it was a quick visit.

Cicus Circus has the Midway, McDs, loads of shops, circus acts... but it is at the end of the strip, so means a walk to get anywhere.

Circus Circus has had a revamp on most rooms, so looking better now. Are the rooms in Excalibur in good order or a bit dated?

Any views appreciated.

Why those two choices?? If you are looking for a budget property I would look at Harrah's, Flamingo, or IP/Quad. No resort fees and great location.

But if I had to chose from your choices, I would go with Excalibur

Only thing that would stop me staying at CC is noisy kids running around, location isn't the best but its on a great bus route.

I would guess if you had kids they would love it up there, if you haven't maybe IP (can't get used to saying Quad) or Downtown would suit you better?

Of those two I'd choose Excalibur, too. Not a fan of either location, but Excalibur is the better location if the two. Excalibur also has mcDs and lots of other choices at the properties nearby

Circus circus is completely on one end of the strip and Excalibur is practically on the other end. Location is pretty much of a toss up to me, but I think the Ex seems a little better atmosphere to me.

For similar accomodations and better location and low cost, look at the Quad (formerly the Imperial Palace). There is some construction around there but should not be a major issue.

Thanks for the speedy replies!

I hadn't looked at IP or Harrahs, but will do and see what the cost is as the budget is a governing factor and downtown is not my cup of tea.

We have been looking at all in packages, but holiday websites don't often give IP or Harrahs on their choices so I forgot about them. We've booked flights and hotel seperately before now without problem, so will have a look.

WOW!!! I have heard it all now. I appreciate your question and will respond accordingly. If you liked CC then ignore these people, but like IP, #2 or the The Quad as it is now called, it has its haters for sure

Circus- not part of Mlife because MGM has distanced itself from them and have tried to sell it for years. THey did revamp the rooms, but the location and the casino in my opinon are better than IP was but location and numerous kids was not a draw. Went in and played a bit early last year after a 5 year absence and got my fill after about an hour. With that said, i have not seen the rooms, but the pic's look good. I bet there are boogers and stains everywhere and not my cup of tea. But what that tells me is you are a simple person and not overly concernced with "the best". So I think Excalibur would be an upgrade.

Excalibur has 2 basic room models. Tower- which is in tower 1. They are circa 1990 when they opened. Popcorn ceiling, old tables and furniture, but recently got new beds and linens and carpet. They have been "refreshed". The second set of rooms are Widescreen. They were remodeled in 2007, before Circus, and have flat screens and more modern furnishings though cheap. The place is rough and beat up because it has a healthy mix of kids and rough folks so probably better than Circus, still not amazing.

Since youve been to CC twice, try the other end of the strip. It is centrally located unlike CC, and with so many casinos, fun stuff to do nearby you will not spend so much time hiking past empty lots to fun.

I returned from Exc.a few weeks ago and was surprised at how much I liked it. Kids were not a concern. Great food court. Was in tower two so it was a great room. I had been there years ago and stayed in tower one and like it then. We had great cocktail service and everyone was very friendly. We wanted to try the South end of the strip and it was a good choice. I have to admit that the resort fee surprised me so I was'nt crazy about that. I know,I know, it shouldnt have caught me by surprise but I screwed up and just forgot about it. I would happily stay there again if the price was right. Good luck

I assume there's a typo in there somewhere?

I guess you didn't really mean to call them simple.

Erm... thanks johnnyvegas12 !

In fact, I'm not a simple person, but when I've got 6 people to pay for I'm not about to spend a fortune either. £900 each for 10 days plus resort fees for 2 rooms soon adds up. The hotel is a base to see other stuff, but needs to be tidy, so places like CC or Excalibur is all I need.

Until 2010, I didn't even consider going to America. I was a Med sun lover, mostly Cyprus, but since then I've been back every year and stayed at CC because it was easy and within budget. I'm just looking for a change now.
