las vegas taxes

I won some 18,000 on a slot in las vegas but live in GA. The they didnt take out any state taxes I guess because the state doesnt tax. But after entering the information into turbotax. It says I owe GA $650. How is that and will it delay me getting my refund? Also, I entered the nonresident thing which didnt help and will my return be rejected because the state code says NV 000000000.

The last place I would come for tax advice is an internet forum. Doesn't Turbotax have customer support you can contact?

(If you owe $650, you're not getting a refund, are you??)

Contact a tax professional. However, the state of Georgia does tax, so yes you will owe taxes on it as income.

I wouldn't expect a casino to collect taxes for another state but their own but that doesn't mean you don't have the obligation. Its on you to ask what is being withheld. You would owe on gaming wins like you would owe on income for an out of state job. Just be glad you don't owe for where you won and at home.

Casino's typically will deduct federal taxes only and give you a W2G. They will not deduct for state, but do report it.

Your question has nothing to do with Las Vegas taxes.

Contact your State agency or a professional is even better since you don't have a clear understanding of how income tax works.

Why do you think a travel forum is the place to receive State and Federal tax advice? Please, contact a professional.

Congrats on your slot win!

But, you need to talk to a tax professional.
