TR - Jan 31st - Superbowl weekend

A bit of background...5 of us set out for an annual Superbowl/bday weekend - this is year 6. Good mix of gamblers, drinkers, foodies and I'm the Vegas regular/host for the crew. I'll start this off with the flight details since everyone LOVES reading about flights :)...will post the rest as a reply.

Flight – AirCan out of Toronto delayed 2hrs but the couple (who just met) behind me provided enough entertainment for the whole flight. They just met, he was on a Vegas trip with the boys, she was meeting friends and her BF at Bellagio. Drinks are served, one thing leads to another and they end up in the washroom together – in the middle of the plane I may add. They exit to a big round of applause and return to their seats, proud of their accomplishment. The mile high club is alive and well….

Hotel – Planet Hollywood. Comped 4 nights, tipped the front desk $20, “said, do the best you can please, I know you’re busy this weekend”. He thanked me and upgraded my HH standard mountain to a Resort Room strip view. Room was nice, clean, and absolutely served its purpose. I had never stayed at PH and was a little worried after reading all the TA advice about it being a “younger” crowd (I’m early 40’s).

Pleased to say; don’t listen to everything you read here. Yes there are 20somethings as there are everywhere in Vegas but the crowd was a great mix of all ages. Dealers were FANTASTIC all weekend having fun, joking, laughing, high fiving – I found it much more fun and lively than the MGM properties I frequent. Drink service was great…aside from a small smokey overcrowded sportsbook, I have absolutely nothing to complain about with this property – all was good!

Gambling – I am a $25+ BJ player so the 6/5 rules didn’t affect me…3/2 was easy enough to find. Had lots of playing time in, but it was a streaky weekend. Either I lost a lot quickly or won a lot quickly. I believe in supporting whomever is comp'ing me so most of my play was at PH, however did go across the street to Cosmo and Bellagio for a bit.

We did swing by Bills on Saturday afternoon for a quick goodbye and $5 craps. It was a somber mood in there for sure – a LOT of dealers/employees are getting the short end of the stick on this closure/restructure. I won’t go into details but will say there were quite a few unhappy campers that were losing their jobs and it was sad to see. Overall, I only lost 20% of my bankroll (which I consider a win in the grand scheme of things).

Restaurants/Bar - bottle service and Peepshow

Show – Peepshow. Again I have to say I was hesitant after reading reviews on TA. I’ve seen all sorts of different shows in Vegas (Absinthe still by far my fave) but had not seen a burlesque type shows. I found Peepshow to be entertaining and fun. The MC was awesome and really had the crowd going. Would still love to see Holly but kudos to Coco, good job!

- Earl of Sandwich, I was a virgin…no more – great place for a kicka$$ sandwich.

- Spice Market for champagne brunch – well worth the money IMO. I’m not a buffet person (in fact this was my vegas 1st, and found this to be a great value! Service was impeccable; food was good, got there around 11am Saturday with no lineups. Pretty much all you need for $30 and it will tie you over for the day.

- PF Changs – it’s a chain, food is consistently good…service on a busy Friday night was great. 30min wait at 9pm no complaints.

- Lupo – Mandalay Bay – 2nd time here. Absolutely fantastic both times I have been. Had the Lamb chop ($49), cooked to perfection. Friends had Seabass ($35) and pastas and everyone loved their food. We started with the Antipasto platter ($28)…delicious.

Too many bars to mention, we hit up quite a few. We did do bottle service at the Mix Lounge (one of my Vegas favorites). Patio outside on the balcony overlooking the strip – basic bottles are $300 + tax and auto-grat. Pounded back a bottle of vodka between the 4 of us, enjoyed the company and the view and left a little (a lot) hammered. Always a good time in there…

Superbowl Sunday – The Big Game!

I had booked a table online with Blondies in the Miracle Mile shops sometime in November (yes, I am that dedicated).

You chose your table online which was a great touch and $200 per person all you can eat and drink - Top shelf booze included. This was our 6th SB in Vegas and all I can say is WOW…Blondies knows how to throw a party!!!! This was hands-down the best place we have watched the SB. The girls were outstanding, friendly and always there if you needed a refill. Absolutely no complaints and this will be booked for 2014 without question.

I wish I could tell you more about this place but my memory is slipping me somewhere around the 3rd quarter. I do know the Niners lost (along with my wager), but I did win some back on various prop bets – thanks for the safety at the end of the game.

What a great time at Blondies, the crowd and staff were amazing – such a fun day!

Football season is done for another year, looking forward to 2014 already…for now I’ll continue to see if Betty Ford will accept my application and concentrate on my next Vegas weekend in June. :)

Nice TR. Glad to hear the Mile High Club is still going strong lol. I really like PH too, and don't think it is just a 20 something hangout.
