Alternatives very close to MGM Grand

HI,

I want to attend a conference in April at MGM grand, looking for 5 nights, do you know of cheaper alternatives, that are still nice, and walking distance to MGM Grand? Or ways to get the price down for MGM Grand or the MGM Signature apartments. We would love a 1 bed apartment as an option. We are 2 adults and a baby.

Thanks

Hotels in Vegas are very much a "you get what you pay for" situation. MGM Grand is a middle of the road property. There are several nearby, cheaper alternatives. Tropicana, New York New York and Excalibur are the other three corners of LV Blvd and Tropicana. I'd say Excalibur would be the cheapest and NYNY and Tropicana will be comparable. None are as nice as MGM, but all are OK. Luxor is just south of Excalibur and may be a bit cheaper. Hooters is right across Tropicana from MGM and is actually the closest alternative. It should be cheap, but it pretty dumpy. Don't let the Hooters name scare you off, it not any more titillating that what you will see at any of the others.

Check lasvegasadvisor.com, earlyvegas.com and smartervegas.com for discount codes.

Signature is going to be more expensive, but will have more room. MGM does have some 1 bedroom rooms (i.e, a separate bedroom with a door), but they're quite a bit more expensive.

Also realize that MGM Grand is HUGE. Its the third biggest hotel on the planet, according to Wikipedia. The conference center is way in the back, on the east side of the hotel. From the front door (on LV Blvd) to the conference is about a half a mile walk. Signature and the room elevators are toward the back, too, so quite a bit closer. Something to consider.

There is Hooters! And a couple of motels on Tropicana you could look at (some part of a chain/group - Days Inn?). They would be close to the convention center at the back of MGM. See Google maps.

If your not happy with the rates the conference organiser has negotiated look at Expedia or similar or MGM's website. Note that you can book then cancel and book a cheaper rate on many websites and get back any deposit. Just check their cancellation policy. Especially for small motels.

For reference, I usually split time between MGM for the pool or Cosmo when it's too cold for the pool.

I stayed at the remodelled Tropicana this past October. Other than a noticeable trek (even by Vegas standards) to get to your room from the front door/casino, I found it surprisingly nice. Comparable to the not-yet-refurbed MGM rooms I'm used in recent years.

Excalibur will be the cheapest at that end of the strip. It's very basic and unless you get the contemporary widescreen room, it can be quite dumpy.

I will suggest you to look at Tropicana, NYNY, Luxor, and Monte Carlo. Sometimes they have pretty good rates depending on the date of your visit.

Check out Polo Towers, the 1BR apt is a full apt. with stocked kitchen (don't get the studio). They have a free shuttle to Albertson's for food and drinks. It's a non-smoking, non-gaming hotel.

Looking at motels on Tropicana it looks like only the Motel 6 would be within reasonable walking distance (that google maps is showing).

Don't stay at that Motel 6.

I actually took the time to clean my shoes after walking through Hooters.

Excalibur is decent, low costs and cheap eats, very close to the MGM.

I'm curious if this is related to your job, does your job not have a discount or even attending free/with accommodations included?
