Bedbugs at Westin

I have an upcoming work function at the Westin, and am very concerned with the recent review regarding bedbugs. Do I have any recourse ?

Recourse for what?

You dont have to stay there. Move to another hotel.

No hotel is immune, The Westin being a National Brand, Im sure is very diligent in their efforts to stay bed bug free.

Mom, personally, I wouldn't worry too much about it. Not saying this didn't happen to the reviewer, but I don't give much weight to reviews from folks who have never been here, suddenly they become a member (that reviewer only joined this week) and give a review either horrible or fantastic. Horrible, may have an axe to grind or be a competing hotel. Fantastic, may just be a shill for the property. I give much greater weight to reviews by long term active members.

With that said, the reviewer did have a photo which I give some credibility to, but he also said that he returned to his original room to grab his phone charger. How did he get in? They don't give keys out after you have moved. House keeping always asks me for some sort of proof if I ask them to let me in and they demand I put use my key if they are in the room when I show up. Hotels do not let people wander around taking things out of rooms as the reviewer seems to be suggesting.

As for the "inspection", if BB were there, an inspection will find them. they do not need bloody sheets. Cleaning the room does not get rid of them. They have to be taken care of professionally, or so I have read. All of this leaves me to suspect the reviewer enough to pass that review by and go to the next.

With all the above said, BB can show up anywhere as they are brought in by a previous guest. No hotel is that secure from BB. When they do occur, the professionals are called and the critters are dispatched. This can happen at any hotel. Thankfully, I have never found them or brought them with me or taken them home.

If you are that worried about them, upon arrival, put your luggage in the bathtub. this will prevent the critters from jumping on/into your luggage. You can do your own check of the bed. If they are there, I recall reading that you should be able to spot them and see bloodstains on the mattress. I recommend you research how to do a better inspection than I can tell you about.

Bottom line, I don't give too much weight to first time posters/reviewers because they have not developed a reputation.

I wonder why Westin management didn't reply to the bedbug review? They replied to the previous review posted on the same day.

ANY hotel can get bedbugs.

When you arrive in the room, set your luggage on the chest of drawers or in the bathroom. (not on carpet or bed). Pull up the sheets/mattress pad on the corner of each bed & look for little black/brown spots--bedbug indicators. If you see them, head back down & ask for new room (or move hotels if it bothers you).

I have done this in every room we have stayed in for years (and we are in hotels 10x+/yr)

Whenever I lose the college fund in a hotel/casino I make it a priority to come home, get on the interweb, and describe the squalor of the place (including bed bugs and rats)

I don't travel for business, so no I don't have this problem.
