Young couple headed to Vegas(First Timers)

Hello TA,

My fiancé and I are headed to Vegas the first week in April (4 days) and I'm trying to make my final decisions today about our hotel and activities. We are both 24 years old and from Orlando Fl. I've been on this site looking up reviews but still can't seem to make a clear choice. To begin with the hotel issue, we want to stay somewhere beautiful and luxiourous but stay around the $800-$1000 ball park give or take and not be far from everything. I've looked into Vdara,Aria and the cosmopolitan but uncertain which rooms to choose from ie city corner suites etc I also want to get my money's worth and good service.I also wanted to find a good show that would appeal to us so far I don't think Absinthe, carrot top or zumanity would be our cup of tea. I did want to see one the cirque shows but I also don't want my fiancé and I falling asleep. I hope I don't see close minded but some direction would be wonderful.

Thank You all

Don't stress out about it the hotel/room. All the places you mentioned are very nice! Just because someone else likes one better than the other doesn't mean you will necessarily agree. Now if you are talking about the difference between the places you mentioned and some older properties that are much less expensive than the differences start to be really noticeable. Go with your gut and I'm sure you will be very happy with your experience, and if not....there's always next time!

As for a cirque show recommendation, I would highly suggest "O" at the Bellagio.

Is your $1000 budget for a few days or a week? The hotels you mentioned are great and luxurious, but will eat up you entire budget in a few days. Another luxury choice that may offer a discount is the Venetian. If you are into a rock party scene especially around the pool and at the clubs, you may want to try the Hard Rock, not as luxurious but less than half of the price. As far as Cirque, if you like Beatles music (I know you are young for that) then see Love. All Cirque shows are built around acrobats, so if that bores you, then all of the shows may bore you at times.

I would recommend Cosmopolitan or possibly The Venetian for the hotel. As far as room type, a terrace studio or terrace studio with fountain view is what I would recommend at Cosmo. Rooms prices will vary quite a lot depending on whether or not you are staying during the week or on a weekend.

As for the Cirque shows, I would highly recommend either O (at Bellagio) or KA (at MGM Grand). Or if you just want a Cirque-type show, I loved La Reve at the Wynn - it is truly breathtaking and enchanting - my favorite show I have seen in Vegas and there is not a bad seat in the theater. If you go to Vegas.com or the resort websites you can view video previews of most of the shows.

Just stayed at The Venetian....BEAUTIFUL...every area...I think our rooms were about $239 a night, but you could check rates now. It's right in the heart of the strip, everything is pretty close...bus stops right across the street, there is a Walgreens righ on the property too. Celine Dion will probably be there, Donny and Marie, Tim and Faith (they stay at the Venetian and sing there...you will have to go check out the April entertainment. Have fun! This was our first trip too...BE SURE TO RIDE THE DEUCE TO FREMONT AT NIGHT FOR THE LIGHT SHOW AND PEOPLE WATCHING! WE WISHED WE HAD DONE IT THE FIRST NIGHT. You can even zipline down the middle of the street. The highlight of our trip was going to the Pawn Shop on tv, Rick's restoration and finding the Toy Shack in Fremont. (they all work together)...we also went up the Eiffel Tower our first night there...$40 to go up it and then they try to sell you a picture of yourselves when you come down...we bought it, 20 bucks. Everything you do, they will take your pic and try to sell it to you, so beware! Also, take good walking shoes and/or plenty of moleskin to put on the sore spots!

Your exact dates would be helpful. Weekends are generally 2-3 times more expensive than weekdays, more so if there is a big event in town. Vdara, Aria and Cosmo are all nice choices, but be aware that Vdara doesn't have a casino. If you're going to stay at Cosmo, it is worth it to get a balcony with a view of the Bellagio fountains.

I don't like Cirque, so I would recommend Terry Fator at Mirage, Jersey Boys at Paris, or one of the headliners (Celine, Shania, Rod, Elton).

Of the three you mention, I wouldn't pick Vdara. Its a condo building rather than a casino hotel and won't give you the same Vegas experience. Yeah, its actually right between Aria and Cosmo. But Vegas is all about casino hotels, so I would (and do) stay at one of those.

You could add Bellagio, Caesar's Palace, Venetian/Palazzo and Wynn/Encore to your list and have all the top hotels. Mandarin Oriental and Four Seasons would be the very top, but, again, not casino hotels. After that, assuming any of them work for your budget, flip a coin. Folks will give you personal opinions but there's very little to differentiate these. You will have a great time at any of them. They're all very luxurious. You'll get your money's worth at any of them. Cosmo, Bellagio and Caesar's are the most central, so those might be good picks for the first visit. Personally, I'd pick Cosmo from those three. I've stayed at Bellagio and Caesars but not Cosmo and I like trying new places. But that's not really a meaningful criteria for you.

I am going April 2-10. If you're going to be there anywhere from April 7-10 be aware that the NAB convention is really jacking up rates.

All the hotels you mentioned are very nice - Vdara is a smaller & quiet hotel without a casino - as others have mentioned - you may want to consider Caesars (in one of the newer towers Augustus or Octavius), Venetian/Palazzo

As for a Cirque Show - you will receive varying opinions - my suggestion would be Mystere for the first timer.... I've seen Mystere, Ka, Love & O, and liked them all in that order - Mystere is still my favorite (maybe because it was my first show ) - Ka my second (really appreciate the stage effects), enjoyed Love only because of the music and O was just ok for me...... I almost fell asleep during the show....

The budget of $800-1000 is strictly for the room
